SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Turkey Day’ Edition

Good Thanksgiving to you Steelers fans.

I cannot speak for everyone, nor would I want to, but for myself Thanksgiving has always been important to me. It’s my favorite holiday. Food and football – what more does a guy like me need??? Being a Steelers’ fan I am of course reminded of the highs and lows that this day can bring. Six years ago to the day the Steelers played in Indianapolis, their opponent this week in fact, and won 28-7 behind three Ben Roethlisberger TD tosses to Antonio Brown. In 2020, the Steelers were supposed to host the Baltimore Ravens but due to Covid the game was pushed to Sunday… And then ultimately to Wednesday. Of course the one none of us will ever forget occurred back in 1996 when the Steelers played in Detroit. The two teams were tied at 16 heading into overtime when Jerome Bettis said, “He… Tails!” as the coin rotated int he air. Referee Phil Luckett went with “heads” and the coin showed tails giving the Lions the ball. They proceeded to kick a field goal to win the game. At that time, all that was needed in overtime to win was a score. Personally, I enjoy watching other teams play on Thanksgiving. The Steelers give me enough stress and anxiety and that doesn’t go well with a full stomach.

The Podcast

We recorded a very special edition of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc last evening. As you can imagine we spent a lot of time on both sides of the ball following the loss to Cincinnati. We looked ahead to the Colts and gave our predictions on the World Cup showdown between the USA and England as well.

Tweet of the Day… Ben would like to share this important announcement.

Injury Report

Because the Steelers don’t play until Monday, the initial injury report won’t start coming out until later today. The two names to watch for are Jaylen Warren and Mason Cole. With the signing of running back Master Teague III, I have to believe that doesn’t bode well for Warren returning soon. As for Cole, his absence was glaring in the second half meltdown Sunday as the offense couldn’t get out of its own way. It would also be nice if we could actually see William Jackson III on the field this season too.

A Thought on Criticism

Every so often I feel compelled to say this because I occasionally see fans claim that you can’t be critical of your favorite team. That’s ridiculous. Just because one is critical of a player’s performance on a play, over the course of a game or an entire season, that doesn’t mean you aren’t a fan. I’m so tired of this narrative. If you can’t say that your favorite player makes mistakes or doesn’t play well then I don’t know what to tell you.

Thank You
