SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘I’ve Gotta Hunch’ Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

With one week to go before the National Football League’s Annual Selection Show – otherwise known as the Draft – I feel pretty confident with where the Steelers are going at number 20. Obviously I don’t know the exact player simply because the Draft always has a couple of surprises but I’ll go on record right now and suggest they are taking a tackle. I explained a lot of my thinking yesterday but as the days become fewer until Roger Goodell struts to the podium, that’s where I am. Part of it comes down to sheer numbers… Some of it has to do with the depth of the Draft at certain positions… And there’s also a part that comes down to how the game has evolved in recent years. Like I said, I don’t know who but I feel very confident it’s going to be an Offensive Tackle.

Getting in On It

Sports Gambling has obviously evolved a ton in recent years so it should come as no surprise that you can wager on the NFL Draft and many other sports at places like thisĀ South African Sportsbook. With the Champions League of Soccer down to the semi-finals, that’s a hot topic but literally everything is up for grabs!

The Podcast

Episode 365 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will air live tonight on our YouTube Channel at 10pmET. After focusing heavily on the defensive side of the Draft last week, we’ll turn our attention to the offensive side of the ball. From Offensive Line to Wide Receiver, we’ll hit the key spots hard. Plus we’ll discuss the Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors and much more!

Biggest Surprise?

The Steelers are pretty much “chalk” when it comes to addressing their needs during the Draft but occasionally they throw a curve. Whether it was drafting Mason Rudolph in the third round or drafting Pressley Harvin III, a punter, in the sixth round, they’ve been known to do something random at times. Is something like this coming next week? First, I believe there will not be either a kicker or punter taken. I suppose I should also add they won’t draft a long snapper either – hello Colin Holba… If there’s a position I’m least expecting to be picked it’s probably quarterback. I know, that’s low-hanging fruit, but there’s no need to draft one. Had the Steelers not traded for Justin Fields then I’d be all-in on drafting one but I see no reason to now.
