SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Craziest of Offseasons’ Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

In the last week or so the Pittsburgh Steelers have done the following…

  • Traded Kenny Pickett
  • Traded Diontae Johnson
  • Signed Russell Wilson
  • Signed Patrick Queen
  • Trade for Justin Fields
  • Signed DeShon Elliott
  • Signed Van Jefferson

Are these things really that crazy? It is the off-season after all and aren’t these things supposed to happen? Yes and no… It’s not often that a team trades a first round QB they drafted just two seasons ago. It’s not often a team trades its best overall wide receiver either. But Omar Khan has made one thing perfectly clear since taking over as the general manager; this isn’t your father’s Steelers. While this last week to 10 days has been crazy, let’s not stop there. There’s also the rumor flying around that the Steelers are very interested in one of the league’s top receivers. Gerry Dulac dropped this nugget while on the Rich Eisen Show yesterday. Who this receiver is remains unknown as of this writing but it just adds to the hectic and crazy off-season of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And it’s just getting started too.

Poor Diontae

I have it on good authority that the Steelers had a much better offer from the Kansas City Chiefs than they did from the Carolina Panthers for the services of Diontae Johnson. I’m told that the major reason he didn’t go to KC was because Mike Tomlin didn’t want him in the same conference. But let’s also be a bit ‘dark’ here shall we? Johnson wanted out and the Steelers were more than happy to oblige considering his antics. Therefore, why not send him to an even “worse” place in Carolina?

Pickett Truthing

I assume you probably get your Steelers’ news from numerous sources and that makes a lot of sense. One bit of news that has had two very different explanations has been the narrative surrounding Kenny Pickett and how things went down in Seattle. First let me say that I stand by what I wrote when the trade news broke about Pickett not wanting to dress as a third or second QB. Other writers have gone on to say just the opposite claiming the whole thing was on Mike Tomlin, not Pickett. We all have sources and I trust mine just like I’m sure others trust theirs. Pickett is no longer a Pittsburgh Steeler and that’s all that matters now.

Pickens

If you listened to the latest episode of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc then you may have heard about not just Diontae Johnson being fined during the season but so too was George Pickens. He was late to several meetings and missed one altogether among other issues. I miss the days when receivers weren’t such divas. I really hope he matures and becomes the elite player he can be.
