SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Setting Grief Aside” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

The Steelers will return to practice today after two previously unscheduled days off. Sadly, the team has been dealing with the shocking death of Wide Receivers Coach Darryl Drake. It will likely be a difficult practice for the entire coaching staff and players alike but no one will feel it quite like the receivers who Coach Drake worked with so often. I take no pleasure in saying it any more than you do reading it but life goes on and the team must move on as well. Yes, that’s insensitive but my guess is that Coach Drake would be the first one telling the team to move forward. It will not do anyone any good to do otherwise. The organization has and will deal with this grief as well as they can. Today however brings back some normalcy of one can call it that.

Bos Bouncing Back

The perfect performance by Chris Boswell was overshadowed by big nights from Devin Bush, James Washington and several others. Frankly it should not have. Boswell ended last year on Injured Reserve and prior to that it was one struggle after another. To be fair, Matthew Wright, his competition, was also perfect on the evening but as we’ve said all along this is Boswell’s job to lose. As long as he keeps doing what he’s doing he should be just fine.

Tweet of the Day… One of our good friends here absolutely nails it as the season nears!

Berry and Berry(man)

Much like Chris Boswell is the incumbent kicker, Jordan Berry is the incumbent punter. His competition Ian Berryman has himself a nice evening this past Friday and that included a 64-yard bomb. What would be ideal is if we could take the big punts of Berryman and combine them with the positional punting of Berry. We’d have the perfect kicker!

Standing Pat at Tight End?

We actually discussed this on the most recent episode of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh. While I’m still in the “they have to upgrade the number two tight end” camp, we can see a scenario where they don’t. Kevin Rader acquitted himself as a pretty decent blocker Friday night. Granted, it was just the first preseason game and he was largely against second and third teamers but he did a nice job. This will bear watching over the next couple of weeks.

Breaking Camp

Would you believe that this end of this week brings an end to Training Camp 2019? Seems like the Steelers just arrived doesn’t it??

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
