Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
With Kenny Pickett’s status for Sunday uncertain, the fan base has unsurprisingly made a controversy out of who should start on Sunday should Pickett not be able to play. Some claim Mitchell Trubisky opened the door for Mason Rudolph with his three awful interceptions on Sunday while others will argue that Rudolph has seen so few reps in practice that it just doesn’t make sense to play him unless it’s an emergency. But then there’s my favorite comment of all… “The Steelers are afraid to play Rudolph because if he plays well then it will make them and Mike Tomlin look bad.” Do you honestly believe at this stage in Tomlin’s career that he cares about something like this? If Rudy plays and plays well not just Sunday but over the final four games it means nothing. Why? Because there’s nothing you can do about all of the games he didn’t play in this season. Furthermore, he’s playing with house money. He’s got nothing to lose because when this season ends he’s a free agent and probably can’t wait to get the hell out of Pittsburgh. If it actually happens, I hope he plays well because it gives the Steelers a chance to win and who knows, maybe even make the postseason! Alright, enough of fantasy land. The Steelers know full well what Rudolph brings to the table and none of us should expect some sudden hot streak of sensational play from him. He is what he is.
Steelers History
Today, Gordon looks back to the mid-1990’s when the Steelers hooked up with the Carolina Panthers for the very first time since they entered the league. It’s a great trip down memory lane as you see names like Kevin Greene, Darren Perry and Mike Tomczak.
Transactions
With Chris Wormley headed to the IR, the Steelers have signed Johnathon Marshall off of the NY Jets’ practice squad. He immediately goes to the 53-man roster. The Steelers are also bringing back Ola Adeniyi. While outside linebacker depth is always a need, I have to believe Special Teams is the main reason for his return. That unit has been less than stellar in recent weeks.
Tweet of the Day… Wise words.
You're allowed to commend all that Tomlin has accomplished during his tenure and also question the shortcomings of not winning a playoff game in six years. Not everything has to be extreme. That's not how social media is anymore but it's worth noting.

Get the Hell Out of Here
You can tell people who are struggling with this Steelers’ season have not been here before when they call for an end to the Terrible Towel. Yeah, you read that correctly. I’ve actually seen suggestions that the Terrible Towel no longer has any “power” or that it doesn’t really “matter” anymore. What do you think fans during the down years of the 1980’s did?? They didn’t leave their towels at home when they went to Three Rivers Stadium! People are so damn quick to jump off the bandwagon these days. The Towel is as much “Pittsburgh Steelers” as anything else. The stupidity sometimes is more than I can handle.
Changes
With four games left, I’m not going to go into full detail on what changes I believe need to be made for this organization. That said, I don’t see how these two coordinators are back and quite frankly the same should be said for Special Teams’ Coach Danny Smith as well. Art Rooney II cannot be happy with what he’s seen. He isn’t the football guy his father was but even a novice owner can tell what is working and what isn’t.
And Lastly…
Mike Tomlin will not be fired. Like both Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher, he has earned the right to decide his own fate. This doesn’t mean he couldn’t be pushed to retire or that he may not like the overall direction of things and go elsewhere but for anyone believing that Tomlin is going to get a pink slip then keep dreaming.
