SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Does It Matter?’ Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

Does it matter? That’s what I keep coming back to. Does it really matter who plays quarterback right now for the Pittsburgh Steelers? Fans and journalists have already determined their narratives before the game has even been played. The team is so close to being out of the postseason that most players have a foot in the locker room and another one on a sandy beach. One more loss clinches the sunny, warm climates for sure while another win delays that for potentially one more week. But the whole point here is does it matter who plays QB? If Kenny Pickett clears concussion protocol then he’ll start. If he doesn’t, and it’s Mitchell Trubisky? That’s fine, just take care of the damn ball. If it’s Mason Rudolph, that’s fine too… I’ll support him like I would any Steelers’ player. Let’s keep in mind that there is a real possibility that two of these three men won’t even be here in 2023. Rudolph is a free agent and will likely leave Pittsburgh faster than residents in ‘The Dark Knight Returns.’ Trubisky has another year but it’s a team-friendly deal so there’s no guarantee that he returns and obviously Pickett will be back. Regardless, does it really matter who takes the snaps Sunday?

Tweet of the Day… Look. I am not of fan of belittling people or making fun of them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I have no idea how anyone could come to this conclusion. Mike Tomlin has plenty of warts as a head coach but to suggest this guy would be better? I just don’t get it.

Injury Notes: As usual I’m not going to read too much into Wednesday. I expect Harris, Jack, Freiermuth and Ogunjobi to play Sunday unless something drastic happens today or Friday. Carolina appears to be relatively healthy for this point in the season.

Mark Robinson

I’m a big believer that some players are just ‘gamers.’ They may not practice all that well but when game time comes around they elevate their play. I’m not suggesting Linebacker Mark Robinson is in this category at all. What I am suggesting however is that the Steelers need to see what he does in game action. Teryl Austin and company know exactly what they have in Robert Spillane, Devin Bush and Myles Jack so what does Robinson have to do to get an opportunity? If he simply doesn’t understand the defense and/or the calls, then I understand. You can’t have a liability like that on the field. But can you imagine if he performed really well? Give the guy a chance huh?
