Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans.
There’s a certain way that things are said that are often different than they way they are written or in this case, Tweeted. When Missi Matthews tweeted that “Joe Haden has been carted off the field” there was a collective holding of the breath by Steeler Nation. Now for some perspective… If you’ve never been to St. Vincent College, the fields the Steelers are on sit down in a bowl and they are a good deal further from the training room than you might think. Therefore, when a player has a lower body injury, he is going to be “carted off the field” nearly every time. To our knowledge, Haden’s injury is not thought to be serious. He rolled the ankle as many of us have and he’s expected to miss a few days of practice. I highly doubt he will play on Friday night. In fact, I don’t know that he would have played much anyway. This is an opportunity for younger guys to show what they can.
Great Podcast Last Night!
We were joined on the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh last night by Steelers’ Hall of Fame Fan Rick Holman. Rick shared his experience of being inducted this past week in Canton. Ben and I also discussed Camp and what to expect against the Buccaneers tomorrow night.
Tweet of the Day… No one stirs the pot like Ian.
Reminder: Arians' teams have had a Top 10 defense (yards allowed) in 9 of his 14 years as OC/HC. His offense have been in the Top 10 (in yards) just 4 times. His teams were Top 10 in Points Scored only 3 times while they were Top 10 in Points Allowed 8 times. pic.twitter.com/2TN5hPJAaN

The QB Shuffle
Before we start recording our weekly podcasts, we usually shoot the breeze. Last night we were talking about the Steelers’ backup quarterbacks. We were trying to remember the name of the guy who had been the MVP of NFL Europe, came into Steelers’ Training Camp and then was beaten out by Pitt’s Pete Gonzalez. We eventually got around to the right answer which was Mike Quinn. The reason we were discussing this is because we could be seeing a similar situation this season. Devlin Hodges has come in as nothing more than a ‘Camp arm’ and has played well causing some to wonder if he won’t push for the third QB spot. That third QB has to be Josh Dobbs because there’s no way the Steelers would cut third rounder Mason Rudolph. I think you’ll see Dobbs and Rudolph get most of the time Friday night but Hodges should see some snaps at some point and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Kam Kelly is the Hero We Need
Let me introduce you to the Steelers’ free safeties as of right now. Sean Davis. That’s it. This is why we really need to see Kam Kelly lock down that backup free safety spot. Brian Allen is not the answer. Cam Sutton is seemingly locked in at slot behind Mike Hilton. Jordan Dangerfield is NOT a free safety, he’s an ‘in the box’ safety. Therefore, we really need to see Kelly, who starred for the San Diego Fleet of the now defunct AAF, grab hold of that spot. To this point, hes played well but that has to show up in game action now and he has to prove he can be a positive force on special teams as well.
