SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Allen Wrench” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans.

A quick spin through the depth chart of the Pittsburgh Steelers rarely offers much in the way of news. Mike Tomlin has never been one to keep “updated” versions of the chart for our entertainment. This time around there are a couple of things to note. Despite still being listed as a cornerback on the roster, Brian Allen is listed as a free safety on the depth chart. When he was drafted, Allen was primarily thought of as a cornerback. This isn’t a major surprise considering the Steelers’ need for depth at safety. Whether or not he sticks there is uncertain but if he can develop positively that would be a huge plus. The other ‘Allen’ in question is Marcus who rarely saw a helmet in his rookie campaign. There has been speculation throughout the offseason that he could be moved to linebacker. Allen is a big hitter but lacked the athleticism to play safety in the NFL in our opinion. Moving to linebacker would be curious and is something we are definitely watching as camp approaches.

There are always surprises in Training Camp and I’m not ready to tell you who I think those guys could be but I have to think there will be a ton of eyes on Mason Rudolph. I’m of the opinion that he has to take over the the number two QB spot or his draft selection will be pushing towards negative status.

Tweet of the Day… Yes indeed. Our Pittsburgh Steelers were born on this day in 1933.

It’s always important to recognize history. It’s always important to learn from that history. Between 1933 and 1972 the Steelers appeared in only one legitimate playoff game and lost. Since 1972 however it has been a much different story. Maintaining the level of success over almost 50 years is pretty darn incredible.

Is it any surprise that today is also the birthday of Steelers’ legend and Hall of Famer Jack Lambert? He was destined to be a Steeler!

Congratulations to the Women’s Soccer Team on their World Cup victory. Teams that set aside the egos and focus on the grand prize instead of themselves often find success. They are yet another example.

Have a terrific Monday (if there is such a thing) Steeler Nation!
