SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “And Cam Shall Lead Them” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

If I’ve heard how different this Steelers’ locker room is once I’ve heard it a million times. With two significant headaches gone, there has been no shortage of reports that the locker room is now a much happier place to be. While there’s some truth, I will always believe that winning cures all that ails. When winning isn’t yet an option, strong leadership is. In 2019 we look no further than Cam Heyward. Certainly there are other leaders like Ramon Foster and Maurkice Pouncey but Heyward seems to have his finger on the pulse of this team just a tad better or perhaps his leadership style is just what this team needs. That’s not a slight to either of those men at all – call it a vibe I’m getting – it feels like it’s emanating from Heyward. He recognizes that he’s now closer to the end of his career than the beginning and he’s seen firsthand how selfish, me-first attitudes can affect team chemistry. He has preached “hard work” throughout this preseason period and based on everything I’ve seen and heard there is clearly a new approach and more positive attitude right now. The challenge comes for Heyward when adversity enters the equation. Make no mistake, adversity will happen. For my money, Heyward is the guy to look to in 2019 when it does.

Tweet of the Day… Our man of many talents Ian has an idea for Super Bowl winners. Thoughts?

Speaking of podcasts… The SCB Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh returns this week. It’s high time we start previewing some of the big Training Camp battles.

Anyone else still waiting on the Steelers to sign a veteran tight end to back up Vance McDonald? We are too but I don’t expect it until Training Camp is underway. As teams find out what they have across the league, the Steelers will no doubt be monitoring things. I have little faith in Xavier Grimble to be a number two tight end long-term so count me as “stunned” if they go into the season with him that position.

If you own a Burgh Area business we are still looking for a few sponsors for our content in 2019. We have flexible rates and would love to work with you.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
