Steelers Release Mason Cole As O-Line Revamp Continues

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their own version of a “Friday News Dump” by releasing veteran center Mason Cole today. He had one year left on his current contract and the move frees up $4.7 million in salary cap money for 2024. Cole struggled last season not just with his blocking but also his snaps which were low and often erratic for quarterbacks.

With Cole gone, the attention will immediately turn to free agency and the draft. With several good prospects available like Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon, Zach Frazier of West Virginia and Sedrick Van Pran of Georgia, the Steelers could definitely look at that route.

Don’t be surprised however if they jump into free agency at the position though either. Some of the names you’re likely to hear are Connor Williams of Miami at the high end and Aaron Brewer of the Titans who is likely to be more in the Steelers’ range.

Is a combination of a free agent signing and a rookie possible? It is and I think it is also very likely.
