SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “On the Hunt” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to you Steelers fans.

I’m giving away one of my three keys to the game for the Three-Point Stance Game Preview right here. I realize this isn’t like revealing the location of the Holy Grail but you get the gist… The Steelers’ defensive philosophy for many years has always been to shut down the run and force teams to throw. That won’t change Sunday because shutting down Kareem Hunt will be the top priority for Keith Butler’s charges. With no Nick Chubb due to injury, keeping Hunt from breaking big runs and being a threat in the passing game becomes job one. The idea behind this is to make Baker Mayfield throw more often than his team wants him to. Because when he does, the team’s chances of success typically go down. So therefore we have a two-pronged approach on Sunday. Limit what Hunt does and put the pressure on Mayfield. If the Steelers can’t do the former then the latter won’t matter.

The Podcast

We had another great edition of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing last evening. We broke down the positives and negatives from the win over the Eagles and looked ahead to the Steelers’ first divisional game of 2020 against the Browns.

Tweet of the Day… Couldn’t agree more Dane!

Thoughts… We need to keep a close eye on OBJ. The reason is that the Colts have had to shut down their facility due to multiple positive covid tests and OBJ was sent home with an illness yesterday… Today is a big day for Diontae Johnson who missed practice Wednesday and was limited on Thursday. If he doesn’t go ‘full’ then he won’t play Sunday… Browns’ Safety Ronnie Harrison remains in concussion protocol and today becomes a huge day for him in terms of participation.

Tunch

I have been remiss in not mentioning the news over the past weekend about former Steelers’ offensive lineman Tunch Ilkin. Along with Craig Wolfley, Tunch has been part of the Steelers media team for as long as there’s been a media team. Their insights, interview and information have been vital to all Steelers’ fans. It was announced last week that Tunch is battling ALS or, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. I’ve had the opportunity to interview Tunch and was given a copy of his most recent book to preview and I am confident when I say that if anyone can beat this, it’s Tunch. On behalf of all of us we wish him the best.
