SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Long Haul” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

This coming Sunday the Pittsburgh Steelers will begin 13 straight weeks of action. This isn’t new territory per se because the Steelers have been here before when their bye weeks were incredibly early. Past history really doesn’t mean anything right now but knowing they’ve been in a similar position is decent news. This all pertains however to whether their season goes without further interruption. If I were a betting man I’d say there’s a pretty good chance there will be more issues with Covid-19. Certainly I hope this is not the case but the numbers nationwide don’t look promising. I’m prepared for anything at this point and going day by day is the best thing I can recommend. This is going to be a long haul and like you, we are here for it!

Tuesday…

Today is of course the traditional day off for the players. It’s also the traditional day in which Mike Tomlin gives his weekly presser. Last week, it got bumped to later in the evening when the issues from Tennessee arose. Today should be at Noon as usual.

JuJu Wants to Stay

Many in Steelers Nation were as giddy as a child with a new puppy when an interview surfaced of JuJu Smith-Schuster saying he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh. It gives me no pleasure to tell you this but that’s why I started this site. To be honest, blunt and pragmatic. With the salary cap expected to be WAY LESS due to the loss of revenue, it is very unlikely the Steelers will be able to afford him. Let us also remind you that what a player says in week four of a season in which his team is unbeaten does not always hold water later on. Would I love for him to return? Of course! I hope it happens!!! I just don’t see it right now.

Tweet of the Day… This would be a good thing!

When Last We Left Injuries

Heading into last week the Steelers were dealing with three issues. A bad hammy for Derek Watt, plantar fasciitis for Marcus Allen and a stay in concussion protocol for Diontae Johnson. I’m expecting Johnson to be cleared and I’m also thinking Watt will still be a week or three away. Allen will be a toss up because that particular ailment can be quite troublesome.

Steelers History

Gordon has been writing about a piece of Steelers History each week that involves the opponent. This week he has some great stuff on the Eagles. Believe it or not, Pittsburgh and Philly actually tied TWICE in the same season. And those weren’t the only ties that season.
