SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Dust Up’ Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

Leave it to Pittsburgh Steelers’ mouthpiece Gerry Dulac to get Steelers Nation fired up over nothing. The veteran reporter and long-time Steelers’ insider reported yesterday that Mitchell Trubisky was benched against the New York Jets because he initiated a confrontation with Diontae Johnson at halftime. Let’s get right to the truth here. Trubisky was benched because the offense had as much energy as a 1973 Ray-O-Vac ‘AAA’ battery. None of us know exactly what Trubisky said to Johnson and we likely won’t but I don’t see Trubisky as the “Tom Brady in your face” type of guy. My guess is that he was as frustrated as the rest of us fans at Johnson’s inability to make routine catches. If you recall, Trubisky had a ball go right through the hands of Johnson leading to a first half interception. I have no problem with a QB getting on his receivers. There’s a way to do it of course and a way not to, but I’m not buying for one second that this was the reason Trubisky was benched. My sources have confirmed that there was a dust up between the two players but there is no evidence to suggest that Mike Tomlin’s decision to go with Kenny Pickett was based on it whatsoever.

Tweet of the Day… Apology? Why is an apology necessary? He was benched because he hung on to the ball too long and the offense was listless. Pretty obvious to me.

Tomlin Tuesday

Coach T deserves a tons of credit for the win on Sunday but I don’t think you’ll see him sitting on any high horse today during his weekly press conference. He knows there is much to be done especially with back-to-back road trips on the horizon. Health is probably his biggest concern right now.

Brady

No one has more collateral built up over his career than does Tom Brady. That only goes so far however and I tend to believe it is running out now in Tampa Bay. Brady, like many NFL stars, lives under a different set of rules than his teammates. That’s tolerated as long as you produce. Now that Brady isn’t exactly producing (and missing a lot practice time), his antics of screaming at his linemen don’t carry water the way they once did. It’s a good lesson for athletes of all ages. If you want to be a vocal, in-your-face leader then you better be able to back it up.

So Who Was Bos Talking to?

The majority of people who have seen this seem to agree with Colin Dunlap, who tweeted it. He claims that Chris Boswell was taking a shot at Matt Canada as they walked into the locker room following the win on Sunday. You can decide for yourself. Personally, if Boswell was in fact taking a shot at Canada here I find it classless. Keep that shit in-house. I’m no fan of Canada either but have some respect.
