SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Donte’s Inferno” Edition

Good Thursday to You Steelers’ Fans.

The Steelers agreed to terms last night with former Colts’ and Jaguars’ wide receiver Donte Moncrief on a two-year deal. In his five year career, Moncrief has 21 career touchdowns and last year caught 48 balls for 668 yards. He appeared in 16 games last season in Jacksonville after playing in just 21 over the previous two seasons combined. In Moncrief’s defense, the quarterback play he was subjected to last season was about as poor as it gets so one would think that playing with Ben Roethlisberger would quickly make him more productive. This is a solid signing for the Steelers because it provides a veteran presence and now keeps the team from feeling ‘forced’ to draft a receiver high. They still could of course but there’s less pressure to do so. More focus can now remain on linebackers.

Now that we are in, or at the very least, close to the second wave of free agency, I expect the Steelers to address the tight end position. I can’t imagine they want to enter the season with a rookie and Xavier Grimble behind Vance McDonald. I really though Jake McGee, who spent last season injured, would be a possibility but he was not tendered yesterday and will become a free agent.

Tweet of the Day… No one will ever forget how hard Antonio Brown worked but that’s not what this entire three-month episode was about. And if that’s how AB treats his football family I’d hate to see what he does at home.

Here’s Greg’s look at some kickers that are entering the 2019 NFL Draft.

This may not surprise you but Antonio Brown showed up 50 minutes late to his own press conference in Oakland yesterday and was told by Jon Gruden to cut his hair. Good luck in Oakland AB!!!

Need to make a major apology here… Bud Dupree’s fifth year option doesn’t kick in until Sunday. I thought for sure it went into effect as soon as the new league year began but I was wrong. My apologies.

Do I expect the Steelers to kick the tires on Eric Berry and perhaps Justin Houston? Yes I do. Do I expect either to sign with the Steelers? No I don’t.

The Steelers had a decent presence at Oklahoma’s Pro Day yesterday and appeared to be keeping a special eye on their group of offensive linemen entering the draft. They also spoke with Marquis Brown, the speedy wideout and cousin of former Steeler Antonio Brown.

Pittsburgh will have a heavy contingent in Ann Arbor tomorrow for Michigan’s Pro Day. LB Devin Bush and EDGE Chase Winovich are the two main targets but running back Karon Higdon and tight end Zach Gentry will also garner some attention.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
