SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 3/3/16

by Steeldad

Happy Thursday Steeler Nation! We are one day closer to free agency which typically means little for the Steelers since they usually ramp things up about a week after the feeding frenzy is over on top level free agents.

Speaking of that, here are some key dates going forward through up to the NFL Draft…

March 7-9 Clubs may be in contact with agents of unrestricted free agents but not sign until March 9th at 4pm ET.

March 9th League year officially begins.

April 18th Steelers may begin offseason workouts.

Mid-to-late April – NFL schedule is released.

NFL Draft April 28-30th in Chicago, IL

I’m always intrigued by the places our Steelers end up during the offseason. For linebacker James Harrison, it was the Steve Harvey Show where he brought on to discuss parenting. If you recall, he created a firestorm on social media when he announced his sons would be giving back their participation trophies. I thought Harrison acquitted himself well on the show.

Steelers’ running back DeAngelo Williams went a bit further than did Harrison. He is currently in Egypt. DWill is a great follow on social media and has put up some great photos of his visit there.

While I’m not going to go so far as to say the Steelers are looking for Ben Roethlisberger’s heir apparent just yet, it’s plain to see in my view they are making a concerted effort to find someone late in the draft or in free agency who can be brought along while Ben finishes his career. Personally I think it’s a year or two early but I’m trying to read the tea leaves.

So far they’ve spoken with USC’s Cody Kessler, Oregon’s Vernon Adams and Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott. This is just a “due diligence” type of thing.

Tweet of the Day… OK so I used one of my own but I think it’s pertinent.

I really think the Steelers are narrowing things down in both free agency and the draft. I’ll reveal more about that opinion in the coming days.

OK, Joe Flacco had an incredible run in leading the Ravens to their second Super Bowl title a few years back and he has a solid playoff record but the amount of money he is making is criminal. Ya, that can be said for most quarterbacks but he literally just walked out of his presser yesterday with a check for $40 million dollars. Excuse me while I hurl.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
