Hey Steelers Fans! Welcome to Monday.
The Kickoff
Let the speculation (and conspiracy theories) begin. Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has accepted an invitation to attend the NFL Draft in Green Bay. This is something that typically, only guys thought to be guaranteed first rounders, will do. Milroe is projected as a Top 50 player but the third round is often considered his likely drafting spot. Quarterbacks of course always go higher than they should but Milroe seems to know something we don’t. You may recall that one Aaron Rodgers sat lonely for quite some time when he was drafted yet he still went in the first round. Milroe risks being ‘that guy’ who sits in the green room with a dedicated camera on him for every single pick. Now it’s possible that Milroe could be saying, “I’m just going to enjoy this process and take every opportunity I can to be a part of it.” I totally get that because these guys will only get one chance to do this. That said, I have to wonder if his agent doesn’t know something we don’t. Have teams told him he’s going in the first? Have they told him he won’t get out of the second? It wouldn’t shock me but this whole thing seems strange.
Playoff Seeding
According to Pro Football Talk and Detroit.com, there is a bigger push for giving Wild-card teams with better records home games over lesser division champions. It all stems from last year when the 14-2 Lions hosted the 14-2 Vikings. The winner got the one seed and the loser got the fifth. The Vikings lost, went to LA to play the NFC West Champ with a 10-7 record. They lost. End of season. There is zero reason to change this in my opinion. If you want to play home postseason games, then win your division. The Rams dealt with tons of injuries early in the season but they recovered and won their division. The Vikings had chances to win the NFC North and didn’t. That’s life.
The Latest Podcast
Episode 415 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available. We focused almost entirely on the defensive prospects in the Draft and addressed some of the things discussed at the NFL Owners Meeting as well.
QB Possibilities
If you’ve been keeping score at home… Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan went to the Pro Days of Will Howard, Quinn Ewers and the aforementioned Milroe. Jaxson Dart made a private visit to Pittsburgh. One guy the Steelers have not shown much interest in is Shadeur Sanders. His Pro Day featured people from every team including an owner or two but very little from the Steelers (WR Coach Zach Azzanni was there). He has not made a visit to the Steel City either so I would be stunned if he ended up being a Steelers player.

Remember that Fyre Festival that was a total disaster? Apparently it’s coming back but the only performer signed up to appear so far is, wait for it, Antonio Brown. My how the mighty have fallen… Whatever is left of amateurism in college sports will likely die today when three court decisions are handed down. These will make sweeping changes to how college athletes are compensated among other things… I’ve said this for years but I hate the way fans are seated at the Final Four. It’s all media on both court sides and then the “student sections” are located behind the baskets about 30 feet from the court. Not surprising though… There was some speculation that the Steelers could be interested in Raiders’ CB Jack Jones. New DB Coach Gerald Alexander coached him last season in Vegas. Jones however has had off-field issues including a gun charge and he was removed from a game when he was a Patriot for lack of effort. My guess is the Steelers will pass… I think Liam Neeson will be fantastic as the new Frank Drebin in the Naked Gun reboot. He doesn’t get credit for how funny he is.
