SCB Steelers Hot Reads – It’s Just Not That Simple

Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Thursday!

The Kickoff

I’m always intrigued by how fans value trades in the National Football League. You could literally ask ten fans what they would trade for ‘Player A’ and you would literally get everything from a first rounder to a seventh. I attribute some of this to fantasy sports and perhaps even more so, Madden video games. If you aren’t familiar, in the EA Sports Madden Football game, trades are much easier to manipulate than they are in real life. For example, you’d like to get Lamar Jackson to lead your Steelers’ offense. In the real world this would not happen simply because the two division rivals would never consider such a thing. A video game doesn’t know this. But furthermore, while the actual cost would probably start with three first round picks, you could do it in the video game for a first rounder and your Practice Squad QB. I mention all this because of our fan base’s fascination with Wide Receivers. Cooper Kupp for example is the latest flavor of the month and some Steelers’ Fans believe he could be gotten for a pierogi and a few IC Lights. It’s not that easy people. There’s an actual contract to keep in mind. There’s also the player’s willingness to even want to come to Pittsburgh. In other words, this isn’t nearly as simple as many make it out to be.

The RW3 Impact

One of the more interesting things to happen this week following the Steelers’ win over the Jets is the sudden interest in some of the fantasy ramifications. With Russell Wilson playing well and getting guys like George Pickens involved, the NFL dfl optimizer has you covered. Pickens, Pat Freiermuth and a few others might be worth your attention.

The Podcast

Episode 392 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will air live tonight at 10pm on our YouTube channel. We’ll give you our thoughts on Russell Wilson’s performance, look ahead to Monday Night and much more.

From the Training Table

It looks like Cordarrelle Patterson will return this week… Roman Wilson, who tweaked a hamstring last week in practice, is facing bigger challenges. Mike Tomlin said “Roman needs to put in the work.” That’s never good… Breiden Fehoko practiced yesterday and will likely replace Montravius Adams who went out the IR this week… Zach Frazier will remain out until at least the week after the BYE if not longer… Cam Sutton, who is currently suspended, will be eligible to return after the BYE… CB Donte Jackson did not practice yesterday. He has a bad shoulder but still could play on Monday.

Hall Snub

Over the last 20 years there’s been a significant bias against Pittsburgh Steelers getting into the Hall of Fame. This is due to the fact so many members of the 1970’s Steelers are already in. Most believe this is why L.C. Greenwood continues to be snubbed. Despite having a much better resume than guys already in the Hall, he continues to be left out as he was this week. It’s ridiculous… James Harrison, Hines Ward and Gary Anderson did however make the next round of voting. I think the time will come for all three but I doubt it’s this year.

Random Reads

A week after going with their 1970’s throwback uniforms the Steelers will be going with the ‘color rush’ unis this week against the Giants… If Monday Night’s game was sandwiched between two other games, I’d be very concerned. The fact that it’s heading into a BYE makes me think the players will be focused and ready to go despite the Giants’ poor record… The Vikings are interested in Matthew Stafford?? Talk about a fire sale in LA.
