Myles Jack is the Latest Hit for Kevin Colbert This Week

Kevin Colbert has had more hits than misses in his 22-year career in the front office of the Pittsburgh Steelers. With about two months remaining before he retires, Colbert is looking to go out with a massive bulls eye. With more cap space than the team has seen in many years, Colbert is checking every box in an attempt to leave the pantry full for the next general manager.

A short time ago numerous outlets reported that the Steelers will be signing former Jacksonville linebacker Myles Jack to a two-year deal. This comes on the heels of the team releasing Zach Banner as well. Jack is a tackling machine but he also excels at covering receivers and that is something the defense needs in every way possible. What this means for Joe Schobert is uncertain but I’ll go ahead and suggest his release is likely coming.

Since Monday, Colbert has added to the offensive line (Mason Cole and James Daniels), the secondary (Levi Wallace) and quarterback (Mitchell Trubisky). He also retained Miles Killabrew, Montravious Adams and Arthur Maulet and I’m quite sure he isn’t done yet. Wide receiver, EDGE and safety could still be on the docket unless they choose to address those in the draft.

With all of the movement, the one move that hasn’t been made is the naming of Colbert’s successor. The organization has interviewed as many as 12 candidates including in-house guys Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt. The longer this goes the more I tend to believe one or both of those guys will have the job. With Colbert sticking around in a lesser capacity it just seems to make sense with the Draft closing in.

There are many that dislike Colbert and I understand their positions, there are plenty of moves I’ve disliked too and still scratch my head over them. But as I said, the hits have outweighed the misses and as he prepares to leave, he is all in on the bulls eye.
