Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
If you thought the Steelers were going to sit back and wait for things to happen around them then think again. A day after re-signing Chuks Okorafor and bringing in Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Cole, they were back at it again on Tuesday. They made what is arguably their biggest signing by bringing in James Daniels to play guard. The four-year starter in Chicago gives the Steelers exactly what they were looking for on the offensive line. They went on to add Buffalo cornerback Levi Wallace to solidify the cornerback position. While Daniels will be a starter I’m not yet ready to say that about Wallace just yet. If his signing means the Steelers aren’t bringing Ahkello Witherspoon back then I believe Wallace will likely start opposite Cam Sutton. If Witherspoon is coming back then could Sutton slide into the slot? Wallace was not spectacular in Buffalo but he was a very solid number two corner. His arrival makes the secondary better and that’s a step in the right direction.
Tweet of the Day… I don’t see a problem here Bob.
With their courtship of DeShaun Watson, Cleveland #Browns run the risk of NOT getting Watson and then alienating Baker Mayfield into “Lame Duck” status

Draft Direction
Now that free agency officially has begun, the Steelers have signed a quarterback, two offensive linemen and a cornerback. They also re-signed Arthur Maulet, Montravious Adams and Miles Killabrew. So where do the Steelers appear to be going now in the Draft? First off, nothing is off the board. My gut tells me that they will feel no pressure to move up and will take the best player available especially if that position is one that hasn’t been addressed yet. Linebacker? Safety? Wide receiver? Nothing is off the board.
Mathieu Flirtations
There is tremendous speculation that the Steelers are looking to bring in All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu. What we know is that the Steelers have had contact with his people and there is mutual interest but that’s as far as it has gone to this point. I do not need to tell you how impactful his presence would be on the defense. With Jordan Whitehead going to the New York Jets and with Terrell Edmunds still twisting a bit in the wind, I’m not sure of the money Mathieu desires or what the Steelers are willing to spend. But I find it curious and give it a 50/50 chance at best which isn’t all that bad. With Mathieu on the downside of his career I would think he’d rather play for a team with a better shot at a Super Bowl but who knows?
Banner and Schobert
The Steelers don’t necessarily have to be in a big hurry here but I’m surprised they haven’t parted ways with either Zach Banner or Joe Schobert yet. In Banner’s case, the writing appears to be on the wall and he isn’t going to be starting. Schobert being released would save some serious cap space and his performance last season was underwhelming anyway. Perhaps these moves are still to come.
