SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Rankings Schmankings” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I apologize for being AWOL the last few days but as they say, I was “adulting.” This happens as our parents get older and mine need more help all the time. But, I’m back and I’m glad to be typing!

The NFL Network wrapped up its “Top 100” Players last night and that sound you may hear is me not giving a crap. I realize many of you, especially the younger fans, eat this stuff up. It does nothing for me personally. I put it right there with “power rankings” which are widely subjective and are used for one purpose; create conversation. As I have always said here, make your own judgments about who the best teams or players are. You don’t need talking heads to tell you how good Antonio Brown or Ben Roethlisberger is do you? If you’re dying to know, Le’Veon Bell was #4 and AB was #2. These rankings are about clicks and about creating controversies where none should exist. In other words… Rankings Schmankings.

I’m often asked about why I look for sponsors for our content. The easy answer is that we use funds to maintain the site and purchase subscriptions that help us further our knowledge and expertise. But having sponsors is also important to me because we build relationships. I can’t say enough about our podcast sponsor 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh. We are extremely grateful to work with guys who’ve given back over $500,000 to Pittsburgh charitable causes. Our new WPIAL and Training Camp coverage sponsor Taps N’At is owned by terrific people who love the Burgh and enjoy what we do. Lastly, we do not ask for subscription fees and don’t inundate you with pop up ads either. When you visit SCB you should get right to what you’re here for!

Tweet of the Day… Bell chimes in on his ‘ranking.’

Speaking of Bell, last night on NFLN he said he believes a long-term deal will get done. Part of this in my opinion is due to his recently lowering his demands a bit. Apparently he’s more willing to take that $14.5 per season but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Congratulations to Steelers’ Linebacker Keion Adams who received his degree from Western Michigan University. Thanks to me, an education from WMU is worth much more now than it used to be. Ya, I laughed all the way through that sentence too.

The Steel City Blitz Steelers’ Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh returns tonight. Among the topics will be the decision to flip Bud Dupree and T.J. Watt plus a whole lot more.

David Carr, the former quarterback-turned analyst- claims that Big Ben isn’t even in the top 10 among quarterbacks and says that Bell and Brown make him look good. You may recall that Carr was among the most sacked quarterbacks in history. Clearly a few of those involved hits to the head. What an idiot.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
