SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Deadline Day” Edition

Good Tuesday to You Steelers’ Fans!

Today at 4pm Eastern, the National Football League Trade Deadline will have come and gone. With many eyes on Le’Veon Bell, I’m focusing on something differently entirely. The Steelers’ defense in it’s current state cannot be successful with whomever plays corner opposite Joe Haden. Coty Sensabaugh is not good enough. Artie Burns is a mess on and off the field. Cam Sutton just doesn’t have the consistency and no my friends, Mike Hilton is not moving from the slot to the outside. Therefore, will Kevin Colbert pull a final day trade to upgrade the position? Past history says “hell no.” Part of this is because there may not be a guy they really believe can be an upgrade. It also may be because they just aren’t willing to meet the asking price. Whatever the case, I think the Steelers will poke around but in the end they’ll stand pat. This will cause a great disturbance in the Steeler Nation too.

I’ll be surprised if Bell shows. I’m starting to think he just skips the whole season which I’m fine with.

The Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast records tonight. The breakdown of the win over Cleveland and much more!

Tweet of the Day… We are so damn fortunate to have Cam Heyward as part our team and community.

For the sixth time the Cleveland Browns have fired their head coach following a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hue Jackson was given the ax yesterday as was offensive coordinator Todd Haley. We’ve had some debate here at SCB as to whether Haley gets another chance to run an NFL offense. Some say yes because the NFL is so big on “retread coaches.” I think his time is done. His style just doesn’t connect with today’s players and he’s clearly become a bit toxic wherever he goes. As for Jackson, being a coordinator again is his only chance. One player reportedly said playing for him was like working for “The Office’s” Michael Scott. That’s not a compliment.

Mike Tomlin’s press conference today starts at 1pm Eastern rather than the normal Noon start.

I think it’s high time people stop referring to James Conner as a “replacement” or “fill-in.” He’s done more than enough to solidify himself as THE STARTER for the Steelers.

How valuable is Mike Munchak? In the week one tie in Cleveland Alejandro Villanueva struggled all day with Myles Garrett. On Sunday, Villanueva gave up an early sack but recovered to neutralize Garrett for the remainder of the game. On the other side was Matt Feiler. He started his second game of the season and again performed well. These things don’t happen without Munchak.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
