The Steelers return to practice today at 255pm ET in Latrobe. Keep in mind, there are just a few days left in camp until the team heads back to the Southside for the rest of the preseason.
Newly signed receiver Jarrod West had 49 receptions for over 700 yards last year at Syracuse. He’s 6’3″ and about 210 lbs. Unless he does something miraculous, I don’t see him hanging around long.
Steelers’ linebacker Lawrence Timmons is dealing with a toe injury and at first thought that doesn’t sound like a big deal right? Let’s remember that Jack Lambert’s career, as have the careers of many other players, ended because of “turf toe.” Hoping that this is nothing like that for Timmons. His experience is needed on such a young defense.
Steelers’ Safety Mike Mitchell said this week that he played better when Troy Polamalu’s back-up was in the game. While Mitchell has every right to say that my question is why? Perhaps this ultimately reflects on Polamalu but right now I think it says more about Mitchell.
In the few snaps we saw Shamarko Thomas have Friday night, he played very close to the line ala Troy Polamalu. Thing is, if the Steelers continue to move in the direction of the Cover 2 then I wonder how that will change how they use Thomas. C2 safeties aren’t exactly known to be around the line of scrimmage a lot. This will be something to watch going forward.

The Antonio Brown contract situation keeps coming up and I’m on board with waiting. It just sends a precedent that will ultimately be a Pandora’s Box especially with a Le’Veon Bell deal on the horizon.
I like the fact that we haven’t heard much about Cortez Allen so far in camp. I’m hoping that means he’s getting ready for a bounce-back year.
By the way, Hines Ward’s new eating establishment is called “Table 86.”
Have a great day Steeler Nation!
