Updated Steelers Big Board for Rounds 2 & 3

Mandatory Credit: Spruce Derden-USA TODAY SportsWith the first round in the books, it’s time to look on to day 2. I will delve more deeply into the Shazier selection at some point, but no time to dwell on the first pick for now.

Obviously, as we knew would be the case, there’s plenty of talented players still on the board.

I’m going to have a lot of WR, CB, and DL here… but as we saw last night the Steelers won’t hesitate to pull the trigger on a good player that doesn’t fill a huge need.

I think CB is the biggest need, but the value in round 2 right now looks to be DL or WR.

Here are some of the guys I like as targets in the next two rounds…

1. Marqise Lee
I wasn’t a big fan of Lee in round 1 but he’s a great fit for this offense. His game is very reminiscent of Antonio Brown’s.

2. RaShede Hageman
Hageman isn’t your typical nose tackle, or 5 technique… but he’s a monster of a man. The type of guy you draft and worry about where he plays later.

3. Stephon Tuitt
More of a traditional 3-4 end. Really has all the tools you want, and the ability to make an impact quickly.

4. Cody Latimer
Several receivers fit here, it’s just who the Steelers prefer. Latimer’s got solid size, good hands, and awesome athletic ability.

5. Donte Moncrief
Similar to Latimore honestly, and the Steelers have shown a lot of interest in him. Prototype outside receiver.

6. Allen Robinson
Robinson doesn’t have great speed but is tough as nails, and good hands. Reminds me a little bit of Anquan Boldin.

7. Davante Adams
Another receiver with decent size and hands. Like I said, several in the same range, just depends on their favorite one.

8. Louis Nix
I’m not sure if the Steelers still want a guy like this to plug the middle. I think they may be content with McLendon, but if they want their heir to Big Snack, Nix fits in round 2.

9. Stanley Jean-Baptiste
A big bodied corner that got some push with Seattle winning the Superbowl, but also put on a show at the senior bowl.

10. Pierre Desir
Reminds me of Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie (physically) who had all the tools to be great, but didn’t work hard. Desir is a high character kid who seems likely to put in the work.

11. Jace Amaro
Great joker TE in the mold of Aaron Hernandez. He’s pretty soft, but I think you can let him work with a blocking specialist and get around that.

12. Keith McGill
McGill is a big talented corner, but missed a ton of games. Not sure the Steelers want to take a chance on someone like that.

13. Jarvis Landry
Round 2 is loaded at receiver, but if I knew Landry would be there in the 3rd I’d wait. I love this guy. Tough, tough posession receiver.

14. Jordan Matthews
I know a lot have him higher than this, but Matthews worries me. I think he’ll have trouble getting open in the NFL.

15. Marcus Roberson
Has good size, length, and instincts… Needs to be better against the run though.

I want to say if Nix or Tuitt are on the board you take them but I can see a trade back with San Fran and get a 3rd. Then they can target Wr,Double dip Cb with Watkins & Colvin as the comp pick.

Of the 15 guys on the list there are only 3 that I feel are worth taking. Hageman, Desir and Baptiste. None of the WR’s on the list really intrigue me or for that matter gain my attention as someone who can help the Steelers. Moncrief reminds me of both Wallace and Sanders. He will make plays but he will drop passes and does not have good body control when he gets the ball or near it as well. That’s statement is from a very prominent scouting report I read last night during the draft. The report on Moncrief came from http://nfldraftgeek.com in the ranking area of the website. There is 1 WR that I’m hoping will be there in the 3rd round when the Steelers pick and that’s Coleman. You can bash for this suggestion all you want I truly feel he can make a big difference in the passing game for the Steelers.
