None of us really like to be told what to do but many of us like to tell people what to do. It’s really not that confusing unless you’re a Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan.
With the team playing poorly and on a three-game losing streak, it appears that fans are trying to tell other fans how to “fan!” Let me be perfectly honest and crystal clear here if I may. You don’t get to tell anyone how to feel about their team. You don’t. It should end right there but I have more to say.
While telling fans how to feel is a major ‘no-no,’ presenting fans with facts and fact-based opinions is more than acceptable. If a fan tells you that the team sucks and it’s all Russell Wilson’s fault then present them with some facts. It likely won’t change their mind because being a Steelers’ fan requires tremendous passion. That passion can oftentimes lead to an inability to see the truth. You get better at this as you get older. Trust me on that. But facts can go a long ways towards helping fans be better fans. Once you’ve presented the facts, move on. We don’t get to tell people how to feel whether they accept truth and facts or not.
Look, we are all frustrated. This season featured a brutal post-BYE schedule that had many of us thinking this could be the year they finish under .500. When they started hot and got into the playoffs the optimism was at massively high levels. But then reality set in over the last three games and here we are.
Blame who you want to. Cheer who you like, but don’t tell people how to be fans. After all, you don’t like to be told what to do either do you?
