Jason Gildon was about sacks and Casey Hampton was about snacks. Willie Parker was all about speed while Dick LeBeau created chaos. A poet I will never be but all four of these guys will enter the Steelers Hall of Honor in 2024 after the announcement yesterday.

Gildon was at one time the all-time sack leader for the Black and Gold before James Harrison eventually passed him. He played in the Steel City from 1994 through 2003 earning three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro honor.

Ask anyone on the Steelers’ famous 2008 defense and they’ll tell you that unit didn’t reach the level it did without Casey Hampton. ‘Big Snack’ played nose tackle in Dick LeBeau’s 3-4 scheme. His job was not to rack up stats, it was to occupy blockers so other players could get the glory. Hampton played his entire 12-year career in Pittsburgh winning two Super Bowls and earning five Pro Bowl nods.

Coach Dick LeBeau was already a Hall of Famer following an outstanding career as a defensive back for the Detroit Lions. For Steelers’ fans however he is forever linked to the 3-4 blitz and numerous Hall of Fame players. He spent 16 seasons as a coach in Pittsburgh winning two Super Bowls as the defensive coordinator.

Fast Willie Parker authored one of the greatest moments in Steelers’ Super Bowl history with his 75-yard touchdown run in Super Bowl XL. He went on to earn two Pro Bowl selections and played all six of seasons with the Steelers.

The four greats will be formally inducted on December 8th when the Steelers host the Cleveland Browns.

Notes From Camp

Russell Wilson was slightly more involved with the team yesterday but still hasn’t taken any reps with the offense at this point. I will continue to say that we are incredibly early in the process and wouldn’t concern myself with this at all.

Tight End Rodney Williams went down with the most significant injury of Camp so far. Mike Tomlin said Williams will be out “days” with a knee (and shoulder) injury. Williams has impressed during his time with the Steelers but is looking up the depth chart with several others ahead of him.

Accountability??? The Steelers and more notably Mike Tomlin, have been accused in recent years of not holding players as accountable as many felt they should have been following poor effort, poor play or mental errors. Well… this year players are now taking a lap when they jump offsides or commit false starts. I’m all for it!

Talk to anyone who was at Camp yesterday and they’ll tell you that rookie Roman Wilson easily had his best day. He made several great plays out of the slot which is great news as the team could really use more stability at that position.

We haven’t seen any issues between George Pickens and WR Coach Zach Azzanni since the first day dust up. If anything, it appears that things are much improved between the two which is a good sign. As I said though, it’s early in the process.

Again, please bear with us on the website as we continue to work on some format changes. You shouldn’t have issues accessing articles but navigating may be different for a bit.
