Steel City Blitz Podcast Episode 8

by Steeldad

This week on the SCB Podcast Sponsored by BodyTech Gym Ben and Cnic joined me again to discuss the Steelers. In this episode we spent the majority of our time discussing the EDGE rushers who may be available to the Steelers in the draft.

The last time everyone thought the Steelers were going to go OLB/CB they went ILB . This draft board is very hard to grade, the players i would rank 20- 120 are all on the very same level. In other words you can very easily have a first round guy slide into the third and vice versus. And i see it happening alot. BTW great podcast.

Thank you Bob. There’s no question the draft is a crap shoot. I’ll be stunned if they don’t go EDGE or CB at 30 but they’ve surprised before…

You guys made some great points about Lawson – the best one is the lack of desire to pursue when the play isn’t to him. I like Takk as well, but am worried about that shoulder a bit. Also excellent points about Dallas and GB – they are almost replicas in need. but as I’ve said repeatedly – #TAKEMETOTHERIVERS

Every year We think the Steelers are drafting what we see as an obvious need. Every year the draft what they want not what we fans want.

Last night Ben said they’re are not drafting safety Obi M from UCONN because the draft is deep at OLB & CB. Well, wouldn’t it be smarter for them to draft Obi (who would be best athlete available ) and grab OLB & CB in rds2 & Rd3 if the draft is that deep?

Obi can match up with TE that kick our butt in division and out. Plus he could play press on the outside,he’ll have a learning curve like all draft prospects but I’d be glad to have him.

I wouldn’t be Suprised if The Steelers draft a QB if one of the top ones slip to 30. I think Ben R is playing 1 maybe 2 yrs because he wants to be home with his children and help raise them especially his daughter.

Sorry for the late response, Rob. I haven’t been staying on top of comments lately.
I did not say that they wouldn’t take a safety high because the draft is deep on Edge players and CBs. I said they wouldn’t because they don’t have an immediate use for a safety.
Not that he’s my first choice, but they like Mike Mitchell. They have the best run support safety in the NFL in Sean Davis. They only time they use 6 DBs is on long passing downs when the opposing offense needs 7+ yards, or approximately 10% of defensive downs. Peppers/Obi would not contribute much year one. They won’t take a guy in the 1st round who won’t even have an opportunity to play more than 10% of plays. That’s why I don’t see it.
They also have immediate needs at Edge and Corner. My position on the podcast was that they need pass rush help even more than a CB. I stand by that. But, if they see a CB who grades out better than any Edge player remaining at 30, they may go that route. That guy would likely take over for Cockrell some time in 2017. An Edge would take over for Harrison.

Let’s hope it works out for the best for the Steelers. Drafting at 30 you have to be prepared to be flexible.
