Shazier’s Status Still Unknown After Halftime

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to release any information on star linebacker Ryan Shazier who left the field on a stretcher tonight just four minutes into the game with Cincinnati. It was clear from the instant that Shazier went in for the tackle that something was wrong.

UPDATE: This is the statement from Steelers’ GM Kevin Colbert. Also, according to Vince Williams, Shazier has movement and feeling in all of his extremities.

Before he even hit the ground he was reaching for his middle to lower back while flexing his hand in and out of a fist. The scary and most disturbing part however was that Shazier did not move his legs the entire time he was on the field.

Steelers’ General Manager Kevin Colbert, who rarely comes to the field until late in games, spoke to Mike Tomlin about 20 minutes after Shazier was rushed to the hospital (a level I trauma center). Several reports have indicated that Colbert told Tomlin that Shazier did not have feeling in his legs. I cannot verify those at this time however.

The injury clearly affected the team included Shazier’s linebacking mate Vince Williams who was fighting back tears was trainers attended to number 50.

We’ll have more on this later and obviously, we are hoping for the best for Shazier.
