SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Would It Shock You?” Edition

Good Morning to you Steelers fans.

I’m getting right to the point this morning. Would it really shock you if the Pittsburgh Steelers went into Green Bay and won on Sunday? For all of the “stick a fork in them, they are done” takes of the past week, this team is just 1-2 and did defeat its most difficult opponent on the road in Buffalo. So again I ask, “Would it shock you if the beat the Packers?” My answer is this; Hell yes it would. By no means are the Packers world beaters. They’ve bounced back since their opening week fiasco against the Saints but they have holes on their team as well. The problem as I see it is with us. The offensive line is a mess. Ben Roethlisberger is a mess. Injury issues are many and does anyone really know if these coaches are on the same page? I expect a spirited effort from the Black and Gold as last week was embarrassing and they should want to bounce back. That said, I can’t see everything coming together from last Sunday to this Sunday. The only thing that gives me hope is the fact that in the NFL, anything can happen. I will pull hard as I always do for my Steelers but I enter Sunday afternoon with no expectations. Hard to believe this is where we are and it’s only week four.

The Podcast

We recorded episode 238 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc last night. As you may have guessed there was LOT to discuss.

Tweet of the Day… LOL

From the Training Room…

STEELERS

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pectoral) – Full
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Ribs) – Limited
DT Carlos Davis (Knee) – DNP
OL Chukwuma Okorafor (Concussion) – DNP
WR Diontae Johnson (Knee) – Full
LB Alex Highsmith (Groin) – Limited
OL Rashaad Coward (Ankle) – DNP
LB T.J. Watt (Groin) – Full
WR Chase Claypool (Hamstring) – Limited

PACKERS

LB Krys Barnes (Concussion) – Limited
G Elgton Jenkins (Ankle) – DNP
CB Kevin King (Concussion) – DNP
WR Marques Valdes-Scantling (Hamstring) – DNP
RB Aaron Jones (Ankle) – Limited
S Vernon Scott(Hamstring) – Limited
C/G Josh Myers (Finger) – Full
RB A.J. Dillon (Back) – Limited

Injury Thoughts… My best guess right now is you’re going to see Joe Haeg at right tackle as Chuks Okorafor battles concussion symptoms… Haeg cannot be any worse… Unless there’s a significant setback today Watt should play and so too should Johnson… Valdez-Scantling looks like a ‘no-go’ right now for Green Bay.

Into the Future

At 1-2, the season is far from over. I’ve lived through 5-11 before and an 0-4 start after an 8-8 season, but admittedly, this feels different. Much of it is due to the fact that Big Ben is clearly nearing the end. History has shown that past Steelers’ teams have bounced back from poor starts while others have faded. Bottom line? We don’t know where this team ends up in January and all we can do is take it day by day and week to week but I definitely get the sense this season is going to lead to significant change one way or another in the offseason.

From the Other Side

I had the pleasure of being a guest on the Lombardi’s Legends Podcast last night. One thing the Packers’ fans are concerned about is their inability to cover tight ends. Sound familiar? Interestingly enough, Pat Freiermuth has seen his presence grow each week and I’d like to see that continue.
