SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Who’s After Bud?” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ fans.

As most of you know by now the Pittsburgh Steelers and Linebacker Bud Dupree failed to come to a long-term agreement which I detailed here. With it highly unlikely that he returns in 2021, who’s after Bud? If you’re running Vegas style odds then the favorite is Alex Highsmith. The rookie from Charlotte seems to check just about every box there is except the most important one which is when he steps on the field for the first time. While he will have the shortest path to Dupree’s spot, Ola Adeniyi and Tuzar Skipper will certainly want to throw their respective hats in the ring. Adeniyi has flashed ability and potential but has yet to put it all together. Skipper was a Camp “darling” last year before being cut, with the NY Giants and then brought back during the season. There is always the possibility of a draft pick whom we do not yet know but it seems very much like Highsmith is destined to be the guy. I certainly hope he because that would allow the Steelers to focus elsewhere in free agency and the draft in 2021.

Training Camp Previews

You might be concerned like we are about the upcoming season actually happening but we’re pressing forward as it is. We’ve already knocked out O-Line, RBs, TEs and QBs and more are coming as the Steelers get ready for Camp in Pittsburgh.

Tweet of the Day… This is true!! So much different at Heinz now.

Washington News

There is a lot of social media speculation that there will be a major tell-all story on the Redskins (formerly) out today or tomorrow. It is said to be quite scandalous and will bring very negative attention to the franchise. If it’s as bad as I’m hearing, it will bring very unwanted attention to the NFL period. We don’t need this. There are too many things going on right now but I fear that’s out of our control. This could be really, really bad.

What If?

One thing we really haven’t talked about is the possibility that some Steelers may choose not to play this season. Guys like Cam Heyward, Ben Roethlisberger and Alejandro Villanueva have wives and small kids. Would they want to risk bringing the virus home to their families? At the current time, there is no “bubble.” For football, this would be a titanic undertaking and I don’t see it happening. Therefore, I think we have to be ready for this possibility. And none of us should judge. These are personal decisions we should stay out of.
