SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “What Did I Miss?” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Monday to you Steelers’ fans.

I have returned from a terrific weekend enjoying the great wild north of Michigan and perhaps most importantly, I was off the grid for the most part. Just a few days away from the negativity of the news cycle can work wonders for the mind! Of course now that I’m back and ask “what did I miss?” I’m strongly considering heading back and never returning! Unfortunately the wife and kids aren’t thrilled with this idea so here I am. Sadly, my optimism for an NFL season is waning. The NBA and MLB have already seen significant amounts of positive COVID-19 tests as they have come together to start their respective seasons. I think you all see this however and I don’t need to spell it out so on to other matters.

Big Ben Puppies

In case you missed it over the weekend Ben Roethlisberger’s dog gave birth to seven puppies. What an incredible thing to be a part of for his young kids. Here’s your first “tweet of the day.”

Another Conner Surprise

It wasn’t that long ago that Steelers’ RB James Conner bought his father a new truck. Well, he’s at it again but this time it’s a new house for his mom. Well done young man. Here’s your second “tweet of the day.”

Evolving on Mascots

I have long supported the Washington Redskins keeping their name. My support for that was based on research of the term and seeing that many Native Americans had no problem with the term. Over the last decade, that percentage has dropped. But I think that what has made me re-think this a bit is imagining myself as a “mascot.” My heritage is German so what of a team was called the “krauts” or something derogatory? I’m really not passionate about this one way or another but I see what’s happening and it’s clear a name change is coming.

Ramon Sums It Up

The now retired Ramon Foster offers my third and final “Tweet of the Day.”

No Preseason?

The NFL Players Association wants to completely wipe out the preseason. Their belief is that keeping players safe and healthy for the regular season is more important than a couple of meaningless games. The NFL claims it doesn’t have to eliminate these games as they don’t think it is something negotiated. Personally I think there’s a need for at least one preseason game. Coaches have to be able to see what they have in a competitive environment. Whether it’s one, two or no preseason games at all, the level of play won’t be that great when the regular season begins.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
