SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Sure Thing’ Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.

Have you recovered yet? Do you even care? Reactions to the Pittsburgh Steelers moving from Heinz Field to Acrisure Stadium have literally run the gamut. Some are devastated while others could care less. I was reminded by a friend on Twitter that this reaction was very similar to when we left Three Rivers for the “corporate monster” Heinz. In time, people will accept it. Maybe they’ll call it “The Ack” or some other interesting nickname. Until then, I expect we will still refer to it as Heinz and I’m sure I’ll be one of them. It just became such a natural part of our Steelers’ realm. But, for $150 million for 15 years? I think the Steelers probably made the right financial decision.

Tweet of the Day… Sometimes you just see a post on social media that makes you think. This morning, Jas offered up one of those. 2016 doesn’t seem that long ago but in the world of pro football, six years can be a lifetime. Regardless, she is spot on. Who would ever have predicted that Le’Veon Bell would be a boxer and Antonio Brown would be a rapper? Weird.

Two Weeks to Go

Believe it or not we are now just two weeks away from Steelers Nation returning to St. Vincent College. It’s truly incredible what Training Camp has become. There was a time when it was nothing but watching football practice. There were no side hustles to keep the kids occupied and there weren’t any souvenir stands either. You came to Latrobe, you watched the Steelers (maybe got an autograph) and you left. It’s a whole new experience now and I’m good with it.

How Quickly Things Change

As you avid readers know, we use multiple graphics for the ‘Quick Hitters’ articles. In the last few months, I’ve been more and more limited in the ones I use because so many players are no longer on the roster. Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Haden, Eric Ebron, Zach Banner, Stephon Tuitt and JuJu Smith-Schuster are all gone. While I miss the days of players in all sports largely staying with their teams I get it. I understand and accept things have changed but that doesn’t mean I like it!

A Good Sign?

Like most Steelers fans I’m rooting hard for Devin Bush. Through his first season and a portion of the next, he was playing at a high level and then the ACL injury came. Last season was not good and for myriad reasons but I’m hopeful Bush returns to his former self. One small sign that I think could be good is the fact that Bush has been largely absent from social media. I could be wrong as I don’t exactly sit on it, but I haven’t seen a whole lot from him. He wasn’t always smart about what it was he was posting so maybe he got the hint and is instead focusing on more important things.
