SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Popcorn Worthy” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Well, it’s official! Former Steeler Antonio Brown and his new team, the Oakland Raiders will be on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this summer and if you don’t have your popcorn ready for that then you don’t eat popcorn. Not only do the Raiders feature the number one diva in the NFL in Brown but they’ve also added Vontaze Burfict and Richie Incognito as well. Those three, combined with Jon Gruden who uses the F-word like a comma, will be ‘must-watch-TV’ this August. This news is even better for those like myself who don’t EVER want to see the Steelers on the show but let’s acknowledge the NFL here for a second. Some will claim this is the NFL once again chasing money and attention. Ummm, that’s what the NFL does! It’s a business! Why wouldn’t the NFL want the Raiders on HK? This is going to be great.

Per profootballtalk.com, former Steelers’ QB Landry Jones will be showing off his talents for the XFL. Since leaving Pittsburgh, Jones has struggled to find a new team to call home in the NFL so perhaps a stint in yet another new alternative league will create some new opportunities for him.

Tweet of the Day… Oh trust me AB, we are. We are.

Any time you want brutal honesty in an NFL locker room, you look no further than where the offensive linemen are. Case in point was yesterday when David DeCastro, who has missed OTAs due to the birth of his second child, was interviewed. DDC was asked about the difference in the locker room and his reply was “You can feel it.” He was then asked about criticism of Ben Roethlisberger and specifically about Antonio Brown’s “Owner’s mentality” comment. DeCastro replied, “Some people get bitter and can’t move on. It’s always easy to take shots when you’re gone.” By and large, I think DDC took the high road most of the season when it is now clear he wasn’t happy with what was going on. Glad he spoke up here. Imagine sacrificing your entire life in pursuit of one dream. You give up family time, friend time, opportunities to travel all in the name of making your dreams come true. Along the way there are tears. There is blood. There is sweat. After years of sacrifice and ups and downs, you make the team you’ve only dreamed about and in your very first game you score! And then someone criticizes you for “celebrating too much.” That’s what happened yesterday in the Women’s World Cup when the USA defeated Thailand 13-0. Some of our girls were criticized for “piling it on” or “going overboard with their celebrations.” What a load of crap. Why don’t we just give everyone a hug and a lollipop and forget playing the games altogether huh? Someone’s feelings might get hurt. Sheesh!

More Mini-Camp Notes… Special Teams’ Coach Danny Smith took one in the face yesterday and looked like a boxer who had just been beaten like a drum… Devin Bush continues to excel and turn heads but he admitted he’s ready “for real football”… Talk to anyone who has been around the Steelers the last several weeks and they’ll tell you one of the most impressive guys has been Donte Moncrief. His work ethic and attitude have been outstanding… We continue to hear great things about Mason Rudolph and his improvement in both play and grasping of the playbook.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
