Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.
There is clearly something not right with Zach Banner. Since tearing his ACL in week one of last season Banner has played all of 12 snaps. He did not travel with the team to Carolina last weekend and has not practiced either. Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin told the press today that “he’ll give an injury report next week.” In the meantime, Chuks Okorafor took reps today at right tackle. This is his more natural spot and where he played in all 16 games last season. Rookie Dan Moore replaced Okorafor at left tackle. You know and I know that Okorafor has been below par this preseason. Moore meanwhile has progressed steadily with each passing day. Is he at a point where he can truly start at left tackle as a rookie? The Steelers may not have a choice. As for Banner who is a regularly happy guy and active on social media, the mystery deepens. We’ve heard little from him. Is the knee not coming along as expected? Is there another issue? Hopefully Tomlin clears it all up and solves the tackle problems at the same time.
By 4pm Eastern today the Steelers have to get down to 53 players. Yesterday they announced that Rico Bussey, Jordan Berry and Kam Canaday were waived. It is expected that if Bussey gets through waivers he’ll join the Practice Squad. Berry gives way to Pressley Harvin III as the team’s punter and Canaday loses his long snapping job to Christian Kuntz. Keep in mind that whatever the 53-man roster looks like tonight there’s a good chance it will change over the next few days as other players are brought in after being cut elsewhere.

We’ll be recording the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing tonight. We’ll cover the Steelers’ roster moves, discuss the O-Line and start looking ahead to the Bills. I’m sure we’ll have time for some classic rants and laughs as well.
Nothing new to report….
Much of yesterday was spent not discussing football but instead discussing JuJu Smith-Schuster’s “Milk Crate Challenge” and the in-practice fight between Chase Claypool and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Neither of these things warrant any more attention than I’m giving them here. I’m surprised the practice fight didn’t happen sooner. Fitzpatrick is probably tired of practicing and is ready to play some meaningful football. As for JuJu, was it a lack of maturity on his part to do something that could have resulted in injury? Yes. Did he get injured? No. Let’s move on people.
Have a great day Steeler Nation!
