SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Mr. Obvious” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Steelers’ General Manager Kevin Colbert acknowledged what everyone already knew; the team didn’t t do enough to replace Ryan Shazier. Thank you Mr. Obvious for that important announcement. But to be fair we need to examine this a couple of ways. First, there weren’t a lot of guys to choose from in free agency. Avery Williamson would have been my first choice but I’m guessing the price tag was too high. Eventually the team settled on Jon Bostic. To be clear, you don’t just “replace” Shazier but you have to at least try and Bostic was a decent attempt if… and here come the second part… you’re planning to draft another inside backer as well. Pittsburgh did not of course which angered many. The LB draft class wasn’t great but I am of the opinion you still draft one. How do you know you don’t strike it rich? This is part of what angered me going back to Landry Jones, Colin Holba (the long snapper) and Mason Rudolph. You have to draft positions of need like corners and linebackers don’t you? Hindsight is of course always 20/20 but when you have opportunities, be them long shots or not, you have to fill some holes don’t you?

So with the above in mind don’t the Steelers have to draft a linebacker in the first or second round? I think it’s a forgone conclusion unless they make a massive splash in free agency and that’s a coin toss at best.

Check out Greg’s profile of Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf… Cnic’s profile of Washington CB Byron Murphy… And here’s Eli’s Mock Draft Version 1.

Tweet of the Day… Not an NFL tweet but I recognize great moments when they happen and this is one.

OK I have to address this trade rumor and frankly I can’t believe I am… There are thoughts out there that the Steelers would trade Antonio Brown to the Cardinals for Josh Rosen and a pick or two. So you’re telling me that the Steelers would trade for a QB that was drafted the same year as a QB you spent a third round pick on (Mason Rudolph) with your Hall of Fame QB apparently not slowing down yet? Kevin Colbert HATES to admit draft mistakes and that’s exactly what he’d be doing should this happen. It would also ignore the need for more draft selections and/or a defensive player that can help now. I like Rosen – I think he can be a decent NFL QB – but holy cow this makes zero sense.

Where is Le’Veon Bell going to end up? I don’t care.

The NFL Combine begins today which means we get to hear all about the importance of ‘hand size’ and about Kyler Murray’s actual height and weight. With Mike Mayock now in Oakland, we will likely be subjected to all kinds of new buzz words. I really don’t care… It’s actually guys, on the field, doing stuff. Works for me!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
