SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Measurements” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ fans.

The NFL Combine is officially underway. How do I know? Because Twitter was filled with measurements yesterday and I’m not talking about this month’s centerfold. It is always fascinating to me the reaction some of these elicit. Yesterday’s big news was about potential number one pick Joe Burrow. His hand measured just 9″ which is small and always “alarming” for scouts. Interestingly enough, Patrick Mahomes’ hand measured 9 1/4″ so it isn’t like one must have a hand like a catcher’s mitt. To his credit, Burrow handled things with a dose of humor.

CBA Negotiations

Members of the NFLPA are scheduled to meet with representatives of the NFL Owners in Indianapolis today. While the owners have stated the offer they have made is “firm,” I don’t buy that for a second. These are ‘negotiations’ after all and that means if one side is willing to give in order to get then they do so. We know the NFLPA Reps are torn. Some want to ratify the deal, some are firmly against it while some want some tweaks here and there. Make no mistake, this could be the best offer the players get and should they vote it down it could mean we head into the season with no new CBA and a lockout looming for 2021. That’s not good for anyone but it’s especially bad for the players.

Tweet of the Day… Jas is absolutely right. Fantastic celebration of life yesterday for Kobe and Gianna. The strength is incredible.

Not a Good Look Thaddeus

Thaddeus Moss is an LSU tight end and son of NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss. He’s got a very bright future as a potential number two tight end in the league but I don’t think he’s doing himself any favors. He announced this morning that he would not be doing any drills due to “the grind of the LSU season.” While his season was longer than anyone else’s in terms of games played, I really have to wonder about this. Plenty of other guys who were in the Playoff will participate, not sure why he can’t. Ultimately I don’t think it will mean much but if I’m a team it’s definitely a red flag for me.

Bungholes

With each passing day I’m becoming more and more convinced that Joe Burrow is going to do what John Elway and Eli Manning did. He’s going to force his way out of going somewhere he doesn’t want to go. I just keep seeing and reading more and more about the Cincinnati organization and how it operates. Look back at their history of top draft picks and how they’ve fared and it isn’t good. It shouldn’t surprise us though should it?

Burfict

Apparently Vontaze Burfict has been reinstated by the NFL and his agent swears that Burfict is trying to “change his game to meet the NFL’s standards.” This may be true and I hope that it is. I say this because I don’t worry about Burfict, I worry about the players that he could ultimately hurt if he doesn’t change the way he plays.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
