Good Monday to you Steelers fans.
Mike Tomlin is not happy. Like gym rats hate to be away from the gym, Tomlin hates to be off the Pro Day trail. Because of the requirements of being a head coach, Tomlin has to be at the Owner’s Meetings in Florida. Where he would much rather be is in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. That’s where the Tar Heels will be hosting their Pro Day and more specifically, it’s where Sam Howell will be showing off his skills. Many mock drafts have had Howell coming to the Steelers since back in late January. Does he check a few boxes? Yes. He’s mobile, has a good arm and is a tough customer. But, I don’t view him as a first rounder and I’m not sure the Steelers do either. That doesn’t mean however that they couldn’t take him in the second round. Kevin Colbert will be there as will other team personnel but Mike Tomlin will be stuck at a table. The last place he’d rather be.

As the Tuitt Turns
The Steelers still do not know whether they will have Stephon Tuitt when the 2022 season rolls around. I have to admit, Kevin Colbert is far more patient than I am. At this point, I would demand to know what Tuitt’s intentions are and if he says “I don’t know” then I’m not accepting that. I’m trying to put together a football team and the Draft is a month away. I’m respectful of the issues you’ve dealt with both physically and emotionally but I need to know! Sorry to be blunt here but Tuitt has had more than enough time to come to a decision.
Tomlin on Flores
In an interview with steelers.com’s Missi Matthews, Tomlin had some really candid comments about Brian Flores being on the coaching staff. “I don’t think it says anything that hadn’t already been said,” said Tomlin. “To be quite honest with you it’s one of the things that makes me most proud of being a part of our organization. To have an opportunity to impact the game in a positive way. To impact society in a positive way. It’s continually an honor to be a part of a part of something that the Rooney family has started and led for a long time before my existence here.” He went on to add, “Senior defensive assistant and linebacker coach is his title. But there’s so many ways that he’s going to help us and help me in particular, I love sharpening my sword on his and gaining a perspective that his experiences provide. That wise counsel. We’re talking about a myriad of things. Whether it’s calendar, whether it’s taking care of players, whether it’s the acquisition and evaluation of talent. It’s been fun to have him. His contributions are going to be significant.” (Quote courtesy steelers.com) Tomlin ruffles a lot of feathers with Steelers’ fans but he knows what he’s doing in terms of making his team better. Flores’ presence makes this team better point blank.
