SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Looking Good Now” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I never like trading young, talented players but when those players have had off-field issues it becomes easier to understand. When Steelers’ General Manager Kevin Colbert decided to trade Martavis Bryant for a third round pick it didn’t go over well with a lot of fans. With news out of Oakland that Bryant may be facing another year-long suspension, the decision to trade him is looking good now isn’t it? Typically when these stories break, they are met with doubt. This one already seems to have legs. While I feel for Bryant, who clearly has demons he cannot escape, Colbert made an excellent business decision. They weren’t going to give him a new deal anyway and he was definitely not the same player he had been. So yes, I’ll celebrate this trade but I won’t celebrate the issues that continue to haunt Bryant.

Tweet of the Day… The first rounder loves himself some Pixar!

There’s a lot of attention being paid to Tyler Matakevich as it pertains to him fighting to be a starter. I would love, I mean LOVE, if that came to fruition because the team feels like he has the ability to do it. But all I can tell you is the truth. Based on what I’ve seen so far he’s not going to beat out Jon Bostic. “Dirty Red” struggled in goal line and short yardage situations last season and I think some of that was due to communication issues. Still, I need to see a major step forward in terms of getting off blocks and covering receivers before I can be convinced he can start.

Are you really surprised that Mason Rudolph has said that he’s “learned a lot from Ben Roethlisberger?” We’ve got to stop jumping to conclusions every time Big Ben speaks.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
