Good New Year to you Steelers fans.
As of this writing the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are not exactly putting their “varsity” teams on the field this Sunday. The Steelers are going without Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt and maybe others while the Browns are short handed because of Covid. Denzel Ward is the big name among four or five other starters who can’t play for Cleveland. As you know by now, the game has zero bearing on the Steelers as they already know they’ll be hosting a playoff game on Wild-Card Weekend. For the Browns though they need a victory to get into the playoffs. I don’t know what type of “quality” football we’ll see Sunday but it’s not going to be high-level I know that.
Kicking Issues
The Steelers are facing a situation with Chris Boswell and Matthew Wright. Bos continues to be hampered by a lingering issue and if he can’t go Sunday Wright has to be elevated to the active roster. If this occurs, then someone else has to be cut or put on the Injured Reserve list for a minimum of three weeks. Wright has been reliable with his PATs but his kickoffs have not been good at all. With every single roster spot so vital this time of year I’m curious to see what Mike Tomlin does here.
Tweet of the Day… I see what you did here Schefty.

The MVP
The Steelers, for the second straight season, have voted T.J. Watt as their team MVP. He joins a very select group like Terry Bradshaw and Mean Joe Green as guys to win the award in consecutive seasons. If you’re of the mind that Big Ben is the MVP, I get that. Without him this team is .500 at best but there’s no denying the impact and overall play of Watt. He’s deserving of the award given by his teammates.
