SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Jerseys” Edition

Good Wednesday to You Steelers’ Fans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced yesterday that they will once again wear their color rush and throwback jerseys this coming season. They will wear the color rush jerseys on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins on October 28th and they’ll wear their throwback jerseys on November 10th when the LA Rams come in for Alumni weekend. These are always big games for fans in particular who love getting a chance to see their Steelers in something different than their normal unis. Personally, I’d like to see the throwback once again be the primary jersey but I’ve been beating that drum since the 90’s.

The Oregon Effect

There was a time when all teams, regardless of sport, had a home uniform and an away uniform. That’s it. Go back even further and there were teams who had one uniform period. I like to call what has transpired the “Oregon Effect.” The University of Nike, errrrr, Oregon discovered that fans like multiple uniforms. But what they love even more is buying those jerseys. This phenomenon has spread through nearly all sports and professional sports, although late to the party, have bought in. I can’t even tell what teams are playing when I watch the NBA these days. I swear Golden State has 12 jerseys. So while I don’t love it, I certainly understand the craze over different jerseys.

Tweet of the Day… We often focus on the stars of the team and rightfully so but here’s a great shot of QB Devlin Hodges taking in the moment.

Back on the Field

The Steelers return to practice and to the fields of St. Vincent College today. After a day off the team will once again resume public practices in the afternoon. If you’re going, expect big crowds and have a great time!

Time to Do It, Tuitt

The Steelers created some cap space by re-doing Stephon Tuitt’s contract. Basically they converted almost all of his salary for this year into a signing bonus giving the Steelers close to $5 million in cap space. First thought on why? Perhaps they are trying create room to sign a tight end? Extend another contract? Hard to say just yet but Stephon Tuitt is a well-paid defensive lineman and it’s high time we start to see him play to the level of this deal. He too often disappears and that just can’t happen.

Have you Grabbed one of our Shirts yet?

Social media is funny sometimes. I often see some long-time twitter friends on quite a bit yet it’s amazing how easy it is to miss a tweet here and there. I often tweet out our online store and when people see it for the first time they get “mad” at me for not telling them. Well, here’s your chance again to grab an SCB shirt or one of our original designs. These are great, comfortable shirts too!

Tweet of the Day #2… Poor AB.

The Training Table

Both Sean Davis and Donte Moncrief are dealing with dislocated fingers. Neither is thought to be serious although I would say the injury to a receiver is a bit more serious… T.J. Watt is still dealing with his hamstring strain but again, I have heard nothing about it being serious. If we get into the preseason and he’s still on the PUP list then we can start getting a little concerned.

The Training Table Pt. 2

Horrible blow for a Bengals’ team already expected to bring up the rear of the AFC North in 2019. Wide Receiver A.J. Green has some ligament damage in that sprained ankle and is now expected to miss ‘multiple games.’ The Bengals will have to focus on former Pitt star Tyler Boyd who had a very nice season in 2018.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
