Good Friday to you Steelers fans.
There’s a lot I’ll probably never understand in terms of why people do what they do. But I also have been around long enough to pinpoint the causes of behavior down to a couple of things. As JuJu Smith-Schuster continues to see wide receivers all over the league get signed, the conversation in Steelers Nation gets more and more divisive. Does it help that a few Pittsburgh Radio personalities constantly fan the flames of the hate towards him? No it sure doesn’t but clearly it goes deeper than that. There is a segment of the fan base that doesn’t like JuJu because he isn’t “100% focused on football 100% of the time.” They despise that he’s on social media and they hate that he plays video games and interacts with people. Never mind the fact that he’s always busted his ass in every game he’s played in a Steelers’ uniform. The “haters” always seem to look past that… I didn’t like JuJu dancing on other team’s logos and said as much here and on the podcast. But we aren’t talking about a man who has been accused of violent crimes. This isn’t a man who gets in trouble with law enforcement. And this isn’t a man who has ever said a bad thing about any of us as fans. Change is hard as we get older, I know this all too well, but I also understand that times change. Remember that there was once an era when NFL players all had jobs in the offseason. Some were insurance agents or sold cars or were even substitute teachers. Were they supposed to stay focused on football 100% of the time too? I can’t tell you who to like or not to like but the young man deserves better.

TV Deals
The NFL Announced yesterday that they had reached a deal that will bring in $110 BILLION over the next ten years with the networks. This will allow the salary cap to get back to more normal growth (we hope). The biggest takeaways from this are that the fan who goes to games is getting screwed. Monday Night games can now be flexed as early as Week 12. So imagine you are going to Pittsburgh for a MNF game week 13. You have plans to drive or fly, pay for your tickets and then get hotel reservations only to find out your game has been moved to Sunday. Or, in what would likely be a worse scenario, imagine the Steelers Sunday afternoon game you’re heading to town for is flexed to Monday night. I understand how the money works in the NFL but I also worry about those of us who plan and save to go to a game only for this to happen.
Pro Days
The Pro Days tour continues for the Steelers and I’m curious to see where Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert are on this day. None of the four schools are “loaded” with potential NFL talent but each has a few guys worth watching. Most notably is Kenneth Gainwell, the running back from Memphis.
