Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
As is the case with every, single player that comes free in the NFL, some Pittsburgh Steelers’ fans believe Leonard Fournette would be a great addition to the Black and Gold. Fournette was surprisingly released by the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. With just one year remaining on his contract, Fournette would be an intriguing addition to the Steelers’ backfield. The former LSU star is scheduled to be paid about $4.1 million this season before becoming a free agent. That right there is the first problem. The Steelers currently have about $6 million in cap space. More importantly they have much more pressing needs. They always leave themselves a few million for emergency situations so let’s say they have around $3.5 million to spend. I would argue a safety, an inside linebacker or a defensive lineman would be more important than adding a running back. All of those would be for depth but they are sorely needed. I recognize that James Conner has a history of injuries. I’ve detailed that here more times than I can recall, considering he is also in his final year the Steelers are content to move forward with him. Benny Snell has also raised his game to another level too so it appears the Steelers are pleased with their stable of top-line backs. What makes this difficult to grasp is that we’ve had very limited access of the Steelers in action. Normally by now we’ve seen them in several preseason games and in Camp. This time around we have to rely on coaches and beat reporters who themselves only see so much. In many other situations I think the addition of Fournette is worth discussing but considering the money and the evolution of the Steelers’ offense away from his type of game it’s best the team passes on Fournette. And consider too he’d be nothing more than a rental because he’s king to whomever pays him the most in 2021 and that won’t be Pittsburgh.
Tweet of the Day… Literally brings a tear to my eye.

Minkah Highlights
Really excited for the work that Kel is doing for us. Her Chase Claypool video was terrific and she’s followed it up with this! All the highlights from Minkah Fitzpatrick’s first season in Pittsburgh.
Roster Projection
With cut down day looming on Saturday, we’ll be throwing together our annual roster projection which will be out tomorrow. This is easily the most difficult year I can recall in terms of projecting the Steelers’ roster. With so little access to the team it’s hard to really gauge exactly the direction they are going with certain players. We will also hammer out our picks on this week’s podcast as well.
