SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Cleaning Things Up” Edition

Good Friday to You Steelers’ Fans.

All signs this morning point to former Chiefs’ Outside Linebacker Justin Houston coming to Pittsburgh. The problem as I’m told is that the Steelers need to clean some things up in terms of their salary cap. Likely this means getting the extension for Ben Roethlisberger done as well as getting a few more guys on their way out of town. We could have more definitive answers by Saturday because most of the Steelers’ staff is Ann Arbor for Michigan’s Pro Day today which will feature Devin Bush, Chase Winovich and a few other potential targets. Once that’s over I think we’ll know more as to whether Justin Houston is actually going to be a Steeler or not.

It’s pretty sad that it has to be “news” that Big Ben has been in contact with newly signed receiver Donte Moncrief. It’s news because of the way Antonio Brown painted the Steelers’ QB during his episode prior to being traded to Oakland. You’ll notice that Roethlisberger has said nothing to this point. I hope that continues to be the case into the season as well. The less said the better right now.

Tweet of the Day… As I mentioned above.

I failed to mention this week that the Steelers need to be recognized for their handling of Ryan Shazier. The NFL is a business after all and they could easily have told Shazier they needed to move on but they haven’t. He will continue to be part of the team and the organization for as long as he chooses to be. At a time when we are all, myself included, fed up with a lot of what this team has done and not done this is a positive that needed to be mentioned.

You never want to hear former players speak ill of the Steelers when they’ve moved on but how can anyone blame Jesse James? At his introductory news conference he said he was “glad to be away from the drama” and that “the Steelers had no choice but to trade Brown.” Have to wonder what kind of books will be written about this team in years to come.

I’m probably in the minority here but I’m glad the Browns are looking competitive again. Rivalries are no fun when one side constantly dominates. That said, I have a feeling this influx of talent could blow up in their faces. Lot of different personalities there.

The Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh is coming up this weekend. Our reactions to the AB trade plus all of the latest free agent and draft prep thoughts.

I mentioned yesterday on Twitter that I believe the Steelers are in prime position to move up in the first round. The major questions are how far and how much draft capital will it cost? Getting into the Top 10, say in front of Buffalo at nine, it would cost a significant amount of picks and I’m not sure I would go there. To get into the mid-teens though? That I would endorse.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
