SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Camp Experience” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to you Steelers fans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their Training Camp schedule yesterday but I admit there wasn’t the usual energy and enthusiasm for me personally. Obviously I’m thrilled for the team to be back in action but knowing they won’t be in Latrobe is a downer. The good news is that there will be several practices at Heinz Field that are open to the public. This is actually great news for the football guys like us but for the majority of fans the usual interaction for fans with players will be non-existent. We already knew that even at St Vincent College the norm of “autograph alley” and getting pictures up close wasn’t going to happen due to ongoing Covid issues. In no way am I suggesting you don’t go – by all means go!! – just know that this isn’t the usual experience of you’ve been to Camp in Latrobe before. Perhaps most important is to make sure the kids know! Here’s the schedule. These are the dates the public is allowed.

Tweet of the Day… The constant slander I endure from my staff is truly remarkable.

Another “Top 100” List

I’m no fan of these “top player” lists simply because I find them so subjective. I recognize however that many fans still like them. The Athletic has started their own “Top 100” this week and Steelers’ Hall of Fame Center Dermontti Dawson comes in at number 99.

A Big “Thank You”

I recently won a contest on social media hosted by Steelers’ fan Rich Sandera. I won a jersey of my choice and selected Cam Heyward. I have been away helping out my parents so I’m excited to see it. Please give Rich’s personal website a visit when you get a chance. http://seacretdirect.com/richsandera

Two Curious Thoughts on the Offenses

The first of these I’ve mentioned before… I’m really curious to see what Matt Canada does with Derek Watt. Brought in last season at a very healthy salary, Randy Fichtner pretty much forgot Watt was even on the roster. I have to believe he’ll have a slightly bigger role in 2021. The other guy is Pat Freiermuth. The rookie tight end is an immediate upgrade as a blocker over Eric Ebron but isn’t quite the same receiving threat. How will Canada use him? My gut tells me he’ll be all over the formation and will be used in motion A LOT! Looking forward to seeing what both guys are tasked with this season.
