SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Brownie Bandwagon” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Unless you’ve been stuck under the grass at Heinz Field for the last 10 months then you know there is a growing bandwagon behind the Cleveland Browns. They finished on a much more positive note in 2018 than they had in years prior and they have seen a significant uptick in talent as well. From Baker Mayfield to Odell Beckham, Jr, things are definitely looking brighter aren’t they? Let me be honest. The Browns should be a good football team this year. Their defense was pretty decent last year and should be again this season. The offense should obviously be good right? There’s just too many weapons for it not to be. But before fans get their Super Bowl tickets there’s some things I need to see. I need to see this offensive line play well. I need to see the Browns beat more than one team with a winning record. I need to see how all of these personalities on offense will gel. Basically, until I see all of the things the bandwagon expects, I’m not buying. But hey, if they are as good as advertised then I welcome it. This hasn’t been a real rivalry for years and I enjoy it when it is.

Another Heyward

Congratulations to Cam Heyward and his wife on the birth of their third child, a daughter. How nice of her to arrive on the team’s off day too!! I’m kidding! Well, I’m sure Cam appreciated it!

Tweet of the Day… Many high school teams across the country are gearing up for their seasons. Good luck!

The Bos is Back… For Now

Steelers’ kicker Chris Boswell so far in Training Camp has been excellent. His competitor, Matthew Wright has been really good as well. A tie is not good enough for Wright. He has to make kicks, position kickoffs where he needs to and frankly, just be perfect. Boswell, because of his history and his contract, just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. However, game time is when things will matter. If Boswell continues to kick well in preseason games then this is a moot point. If he struggles and Wright is consistently good? Then we’ve got ourselves a real issue.

The Communication QB

Ben Roethlisberger had some really interesting comments this past weekend to Mike Prisuta of WDVE. Some of what he said we’ve heard… “Enjoying the game more… Feels better… The locker room is more open for everyone…” But he also talked about how he has worked on his communication skills not just with the team but with his wife and kids at home. That’s a rare moment of personal life reflection for Big Ben and of you’re married and/or married and have kids then you know how important communication is. Some of us do it better than others and some take longer to figure it out. Good for him for his honesty.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
