SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “After Further, Further Review” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

It is looking more and more likely that the NFL’s Competition Committee will not make any alterations to the current instant replay system. New York Giants’ Owner John Mara is “skeptical” that any changes are made citing the fact he doesn’t believe the votes are there. In order for such a change to occur 24 or more of the 32 owners would have to approve it and Mara doesn’t see that happening. This discussion about change was ignited by the ‘non-call’ in the NFC Championship Game where an obvious pass interference/helmet-to-helmet penalty was not called. I will continue to stand by my own personal belief that replay has largely made officiating worse. Officials often lack the confidence to make calls knowing they will be second guessed. Challenges are too long and take the momentum right out of the game in many cases. I’ll accept arguments about reviewing scoring plays or turnovers but everything else needs to go away. Perhaps what we should be focusing on here is why haven’t we heard anything regarding the discipline of that official? If the NFL is going to can one for missing a false start then how in the hell is this guy still employed?

Here’s Cnic’s Pre-Combine Mock Draft. Got your own thoughts on it? Let him know in the comments section.

Tweet of the Day… And so it begins…

Normally Colbert’s Combine Q&A is ‘must-sleep TV’ but with the Antonio Brown situation front and center I would expect to hear a little more in the way of hot takes and veiled comments.

At this current time, my gut tells me Jesse James leaves in free agency. I mentioned this on Monday in ‘Quick Hitters’ but the more I think about it the more I think he will get a bigger offer elsewhere. Plus, does a guy who called his own team “The Kardashians” really want to come back? It could say a lot about Brown and Big Ben depending on what he ultimately does.

Unlike last year when there were very few draft options with inside linebackers, I see several second and third round options that the Steelers have to explore. Could Devin Bush fall into the second? What about guys like Mack Wilson or Tre Lamar? Let’s put it this way; if the Steelers don’t draft at least one ILB I may have to go outside and scream.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

If the Steelers still feel that matching up their ILBer on the other teams best WR does it really matter who they draft. Lets make something clear L.T. Fort can not cover A.J. Green, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Edelman, Tyreek Hill. Or do we have to hear that B.S. that he came into his own last year. Their coaching and scheme was horrible it’s the reason we were home for the playoffs. Unless they draft greedy or Murphy to play that spot there just isn’t a ILBer capable of doing what they ask. And just so you know Shazier isn’t covering them guys either.
