SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “11 Reasons Why Not” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I understand that many of you are giddy with excitement over the fact that free agent defensive back Tyrann Mathieu wants to “take less money to play for a team with a winning culture.” Reportedly, the Honey Badger wants around $11 million and that’s exactly why he won’t be coming to Pittsburgh. While I believe in “never say never,” I can’t see the Steelers paying that. Keep in mind that Mathieu has struggled to stay healthy too so that’s yet another reason I don’t see him coming. But the real issue is the “11” because the Steelers have other areas to address in free agency. As of yesterday morning, the team had just under $7 million in cap space so there’s further reason to leave the Honey Badger to other teams with more cap space.

Tweet of the Day #1… To quote Regina George from ‘Mean Girls…’ “It’s not gonna happen!”

The Steelers did re-sign running back Fitzgerald Toussaint which as of right now means he’s nothing more than a body for OTAs and perhaps Training Camp. Toussaint has been fine at times but this is an example of where the team is sometimes too stuck on current or former guys. I would much rather try some new blood once in awhile.

Tweet of the Day #2… Very cool thing going on here.

I’ve been doing this sort of “blogging” thing for over a decade. Here are a few important things I’ve learned. First, everyone has ideas as to what the Steelers should do, but if you don’t speak in reality about them then you can’t be upset when people call you out. Second, If I’m wrong about something related to the Steelers, I have no problem admitting it. Third, you won’t always agree with people you like. Lastly, blogging the Steelers is a lot like high school. Everyone talks behind everyone else’s back. Is what it is.

I’m leaning slightly towards the idea that the Steelers will trade up for an inside linebacker. There are four first round guys and then the bottom falls out. At 28, there’s a really good chance none of those guys are available. With very little activity in free agency so far I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t something that happens.

Enjoy the weekend Steeler Nation!
