SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Morning After Vol. 5” Edition

Good day Steelers’ Fans if we can call it that.

Where to begin? Losing is one thing but to see so many things go wrong especially on the offensive side of the ball is truly disheartening.

Do I think Ben Roethlisberger is done? No I don’t but I think there are some issues and some may be mental as well as physical. It’s clear that he has little faith in anyone other than Antonio Brown right now. This offense does not have a second wide receiver of note. The idea that Martavis Bryant would just walk in here and play well is gone and there’s no tight end that can serve as a first or second option so Roethlisberger is very much under pressure to make plays and he’s forcing things.

I’m not sure Big Ben’s arm is what it once was either. The most important and difficult throw is that 15-yard sideline route because it has to be thrown with great velocity and also some touch. There were a few times yesterday where he struggled to get the ball there. That’s a major concern.

We all saw it coming didn’t we? Playing the worst run D in the league and Haley looks to “pass first” from the get go. This game is not that hard. Make them stop what they’ve been unable to stop. It’s that easy!

The defense surrendered 17 points Sunday. Were they perfect? Nope, not at all but they did enough to win the game and that’s been their task in recent years.

Ryan Shazier is seriously having an ‘MVP’ type season. If he continues this all year it would be a crime for him not to get some consideration.

Vance McDonald is someone I greatly overestimated. I thought the trade for him would reap significant benefits and I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Marcus Gilbert needs to get healthy. Like, yesterday.

Tweet of the Day… Vince is correct but he is far from the problem right now.

I don’t think anyone should give up on this team, not by a long shot, but there were some things that really worry me on offense.

The red zone offense is a wreck. Sometimes it’s execution but yesterday it was more on Haley I thought. Because of the tight end issue and Bryant’s lack of emergence this season, there isn’t a really a true ‘red zone target.’ That said, Haley seems to go away from what got his unit to the red zone in the first place. It’s frustrating and I know that goes without saying.

If anyone can explain to me what in the hell Mike Mitchell was doing celebrating a big hit on Leonard Fournette AFTER a 12 yard gain I’d really appreciate it.

Le’Veon Bell had 15 carries. 15 carries against the worst running defense in the NFL. What more needs to be said?

I do not buy that you can’ run play-action if the running game isn’t there. Will it be as effective? No, but you have to try. The Jags secondary just sat back all day yesterday with no worry of a run from the league’s best back.

David DeCastro is not playing well. Several pressures given up yesterday and his run blocking, normally a strength, was sub-par as well.

If not for Shazier, Javon Hargrave would be the MVP of this defense. He led the team in tackles yesterday and just keeps on having a great season.

James Harrison not being active for the second straight week is just not right. His presence on the field is necessary when the opposing offense is starting to get yards off the edges which happened yesterday.

(Try) to have a great day Steeler Nation!

This was what i saw coming, they came with boxing gloves and we had our skirt on. Every team in the NFL has short comings some where. But we were really expecting a great season from Ben. Now that’s going to take a complete turn around. What has really got me shaking my head is this lose no huddle nothing gets snapped until 2 seconds to go offense. It causes us way more problems than the defense.

It’s like Tomlin continues to use this team as an experiment. Why is Harrison inactive, when in the past, he’s been a HUGE 3rd down stopper? Why did Haley dial up a pass 1st game plan against the league’s worst run defense? I wonder if the players aren’t starting to quietly mutiny against an inept coaching staff that continues to leave everyone scratching their heads. The Jags and Bears should’ve been givens. Power teams like KC and NE would’ve put together a solid game plan of their strengths against the opposing team’s weaknesses, went at it, made adjustments at halftime, and walked away with simple wins. We’re the most talented dumpster fire currently in the NFL.
