SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Growing Up” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steeler Fans!

I think I speak for all Steelers’ fans when I say I want Martavis Bryant to be reinstated ASAP and that I want a successful 2017 season from him. Unfortunately, each time he takes to Twitter I become less and less convinced that he has grown up during his year-long suspension. You’ll recall his little rant after Sammie Coates started off the year well and then again yesterday he fired off another tweet clearly aimed at newly signed Justin Hunter.

In his defense, there is no comparison between his talent and that of Justin Hunter. The problem is that Hunter is available and Bryant isn’t. While I hope for his and our sake that he’s learned from all of this and is a better man, I also wish someone would have taken his social media away too.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the Steelers were played a bit by Dont’a Hightower and the Patriots. When he arrived, the Steelers knew what offer he had from them. The Steelers countered with something better yet he wouldn’t commit. That’s what forced the hand of Kevin Colbert who gave Hightower the ultimatum about getting on the plane. Clearly Hightower had no intentions of signing with the Jets despite their offer of more money. I don’t believe he intended to sign with the Steelers either.

Tweet (#2) of the Day… Couldn’t agree more Ike! (He’s referring to Mel Blount)

One last thing on Hunter… I see his signing as a security blanket for Sammie Coates as much as I do Bryant.

I do not get the fascination with T.J. Watt to the Steelers in the first round. Yes he has the name and yes has the motor but he is at least two seasons away from being the edge rusher the Steelers need right now. Now way I can take him in the first round.

Speaking of Watt, he dined with teammate Vince Biegel, Colbert and Head Coach Mike Tomlin this week while the two Steelers were there for Wisconsin’s pro day.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

Many of these player are just young and irresponsible they have been the cock of the walk. For the last 6-7 years of there lives and probably haven’t even heard the word no. I am rooting for Bryant but i don’t expect to see a role model even if he does return. Having coach young people for a long time i do know this. The path that Bryant has been walking is a rough road and many have walked it but very few come back the same. I would suggest he get a good mentor and stay off social media.
