SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Divisional Playoff” Edition

Good Day Steelers’ Fans! Unless you’ve been under a rock, the game time has changed from 1pm to 820pm due to the ice storm ravaging that section of the country.

I rarely do a ‘Quick Hitters’ on the weekend but there’s a lot to discuss and I’ve got a lot to say.

The Steelers have indeed reinstated Outside Linebackers’ Coach Joey Porter for Sunday night’s game. This was largely due to the fact that nearly all of the charges (other than the two least serious) were dropped. Even at my advanced age, it’s a good lesson for me to not jump to conclusions. While I would suggest Porter should think a little more about the positions he puts himself in, I would also say it sounds like the police officer in question has quite a bit of culpability as well.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for me. My all-time favorite Steeler, Terry Bradshaw, has put his foot in his mouth a few different times now. Brad will always be my favorite because he was literally the first Steeler I saw on TV as a small child and also because he seemed to come up big on the biggest stages. As I got older, I learned to appreciate him more because he started to face his problems such as anxiety and depression. All that said, I wish he would just shut up right now.

If you missed my Three-Point Stance, here it is. My gameday guide for the Divisional Playoff.

Tweet of the Day… Someone got the message about the time change.

SCB Contributor Ben has been tossing a lot of numbers at the crew this week. Chief among them (pun intended), is that 15% of their points came from punt, kick, interception and fumble returns. Bottom line, and we’ve been saying it all week, if the Steelers win the turnover battle and do not give up scores on special teams then we are advancing.

Ladarius Green looks to be a no-go again this week. I see little chance he’s back next year which probably means the Steelers need to look for a tight end in free agency or in the draft. Just can’t have a guy on the roster who never plays.

While safety of players and fans is important to the NFL, don’t for a minute think that the decision to change the game time is all about that. It’s also about money as well. Ticket prices for the game had dropped as low as $50 and the major reason for that was the pending bad weather. The last thing the NFL wants to see is a second round playoff game with a stadium filled with empty seats.

Enjoy the weekend Steeler Nation!
