With just one week left in the regular season, the playoff races are coming to a conclusion. There are five conference championships left to be decided and 15 playoff spots still up for grabs. We detailed all of the playoff scenarios earlier this week. Last week’s biggest story was McKeesport throttling Thomas Jefferson to set up a showdown with Belle Vernon at The Beach for the Conference Title. We were fortunate to be joined by McKeesport Head Coach Matt Miller on this week’s edition of the WPIAL Blitz Show to talk about the win over TJ and the upcoming game against Belle Vernon. This week’s show includes:
- Interview with McKessport Head Coach Matt Miller
- A rundown of the Week 8 action
- A look at the playoff picture in every conference
- Playoff bracket predictions
WPIAL Blitz Show Player of the Week Presented by Brute Athletic
Rodney Gallagher (QB-Laurel Highlands)
Congratulations to our Brute Athletic Player of the Week Rodney Gallagher from Laurel Highlands. In a battle for the last playoff spot in the 4A Big Eight conference, Laurel Highlands and Trinity went back and forth all night. Every time Trinity scored, Gallagher had an answer. He finished the night with 100 passing yards and 1 TD on a jump-pass and an incredible 285 rushing yards and 5 TDs. On the whole, Gallagher had 385 yards of total offense and 6 total TDs. A fantastic performance to lead his team to a narrow 39-34 victory and their first playoff appearance since 2015. Check out his highlights from Friday night. Trust me, it’s worth your time:
